I've build a lot of Lego in my time, but this was, by far, one of the most satisfying and interesting builds. It's solid, looks great (amazing actually), and even after a really long time, I can happily look at it and admire it. PLUS I have a lot of other Batman sets so it looks amazing (i even designed my shelves around it). Thanks Lego!!!! More like this please
Had such an enjoyable experience building this batmobile over the Christmas holidays. I did have one issue where the rotating mechanism the car sits on jammed when putting it together, but I reached out to Lego support and they sent me the replacement parts within a week or so. Great service, great product!
Its a shame people have struggled with this model, I personally found it to be one of the most enjoyable builds for a long time. I can only imagine how hard this was to design and create. Its not a model for beginners that's for sure and having built all of the Ultimate Technic cars it was nice for it to not be too Technic heavy.. 10/10 for me!
I thoroughly enjoyed building the Batmobile, and cannot recommend it highly enough. It is reasonably straightforward with little repetition. I found it hugely satisfying seeing it take shape, an inner excitement that is hard to describe. The finished car looks awesome, the level of detail is excellent, and the opening cockpit is genius. Oh to meet with the designers, so many questions about how it came from concept to final product! This is definitely a display piece and not for zooming across the floor, and a suitable place will be found to ensure its done justice. I returned to Lego during lockdown, 20+ years since my last foray and this was my second big build. First off was the Haunted House, excellent but nowhere near the level of this set. Only minor points are use of stickers, past experience is they will perish in a few years, and like others, the roof tile on the cockpit is dull - minor matters and noway would it put me off this set. Thank you LEGO, awesome!
I bought this December 2019 & got the limited edition reissue of the smaller version as a freebie which is nicely displayed in front of it's larger cousin. First let's cover the minifigures which are, particularly the Batman with new all-in-one Cape & Cowl, well done capturing the essence of B1989 perfectly. Be warned that this is a beast of a set to build, I would suggest tackling it in stages of 2 or 3 bags at a time & taking frequent breaks if the build is to be done in a short timeframe to prevent fatigue with the build process. The hardest part of the inital stages for B1989, which would come into play later on in the build, is getting the interior gearing right - this enables you to turn the Afterburner and pop the twin Machine Guns. As the set takes shape it becomes increasingly difficult to maneuver in the cockpit which can lead to frustation and revisiting previous stages to repair the damage you will end up doing to the controls. Once the carcass is fully constructed, & it's a pretty solid base for a piece of this size, the outer skin seems to take shape rapidly & B1989 is recognisable quickly. The turntable stand locks perfectly into the chassis and allows you, space permitting, to recreate the spinning around in the Batcave. If you don't have the space it at least allows you to adjust the angle of B1989 to display it to it's best effect. A critiscism is if you don't get the internal gearing perfect at this stage it can move around and you will lose the ability to pop the machine guns. It doesn't detract from how nice the set is BUT it can be frustrating if you want to show the intended functionality off. A similar thing has happened to 2015s Helicarrier set 76042 with the internal gears linking the crank and the fans on the "wings". Lastly I must mention it's a very weighty piece, much like the previouisly mentioned 76042 so bear this in mind when displaying it or moving it around. Although unlike 76042 it's much more robust, it's more than likely you will only have a couple of pieces on the sides around the air intakes pop off and require reattachment.
