I purchased this TV to replace a 10+ year old CRT TV and couldn't be happier. After tax and shipping I paid less that $600 for this 42" 3D HDTV with full 1080p for less than many 37" 720p TVs that weren't 3D ready. And mine came with a 40 watt sound bar. That may not sound like much, but it fills my studio apartment with sound at less than half its volume capabilities. It is more than adequate. And the picture quality is awesome, especially when I use the built in 2D>3D converter. The manufacturer recommends taking breaks when using the 3D glasses to prevent eye strain, but after nearly a week of watching nearly everything in 3D, including standard def TV shows from cable, I have yet to encounter any eye strain. The sound bar includes the ability to sync the audio in case it becomes separated from the video, but I have not encountered that yet. The sound bar also has its own remote, but its functions are also duplicated on the TV remote, eliminating the need for both. I also purchased a 3D bluray player separately and it is also an LG. I can use the bluray remote to operate the TV's basic functions, or the TV's remote to handle the basic bluray functions, eliminating the need to switch remotes constantly. I mostly just use the TV remote to operate all 3, except when I want to access the internet through the bluray player. The TV itself can not access the internet, but do I really need that redundancy? I already have my Xbox 360 as a back up internet access for the TV. And speaking of the Xbox, the games are so much better in 3D! This is my first HDTV, let alone 3D TV, and I find it quite easy to operate. The controls are quite simple to understand, even without reading the instruction manual, but it is still quite helpful. As for connections, you have the cable input which connects easily, just like any standard TV, then the HDMI cable (one connector) from the bluray player to the TV and another HDMI cable from the Xbox. One cable for each connection keeps it neat. I definitely recommend this TV to anyone and everyone. And if you don't want the addition of the sound bar you can always opt for the TV alone, or a larger or smaller screen. LG has many different options available. Oh, I almost forgot to mention this TV comes with 4 pair of 3D glasses. Just slip them on, even over your glasses, they fit fine. The one downside is that they seem flimsier than those rental glasses at the movie theaters, but they are also lighter and more comfortable to wear. And as long as you aren't trying to wrestle or anything like that in them they should be fine.
I bought this tv as an anniversary gift for my husband. Set up was super easy. I did not hook up the soundbar because we already had a home theater system. The picture quality is phenomenal it blew my husbands mind, he is a huge Vizio fan & the picture quality is 100 times better.
I recently purchased this TV along with a Philips 3D Blu Ray DVD Player. The 3D is amazing and is equivalent to the 3D in theatres.LG gives a lot of bang for the buck. The picture quality is very is sharp and clear very defined. The only draw back here is the audio which lacks some bass. But with a sub-woofer you can overcome the inadequacies in the audio. With a good 3D Blu Ray player you can get some outstanding 3D Effects .Also you can adjust the 3D to suit your tastes. The 2D to 3D conversion is also quite amazing.I reccommend a good tiltable wall mount sense to maximize the 3D effect.3D operates in theatres works well because of refracted light by mounting the TV on a wall with a tiltable wall mount you can better maximize and take full advantage of what this TV has to offer
Recently updated from an old 2001 32" Panasonic TV. This 42" LG Flatscreen/3D TV is absolutely amazing. It came with a sound bar that's not needed but is still awesome. Came with 4 - 3D glasses. TV can be switched from 2D to 3D at anytime. Can watch regular programming in 3D which is pretty cool. Was easy to set up out the box. Didn't even need the book to figure it out! HA - LOL This is my first flatscreen TV ever. It is lighter, brighter, bigger, yet thinner and has more options than I could ever ask for. The picture is just amazing especially on HD and movies are like wow. I was very skeptical buying something like this online but have been very pleased and would buy it all over again. It arrived just a few days after purchased, a lot sooner than I had anticipated.
I don't hear well, so we attached the sound bar to the wall behind the headboard of my bed. I now can hear the tv very well, and the sound level doesn't cause the entire house to vibrate.
