[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this a few years ago and it worked great until a few days ago when it collapsed and the tube the barrels rotate on collapsed. All of the metal parts have significant rust on them and I have been using wd 40 on them since the beginning. The plastic parts are in fair condition and if the metal parts are available I think I could fix it
The first shipment did not include ANY of the hardware (fasteners, end-plates, aeration tube). It was shipped in a huge generic box with no identification other than the shipping information. A second shipment was sent, which came in a factory printed box. Everything was included as expected. It is a two-person job to assemble the compost tumbler. The printed directions were confusing, but after some dis-assembly and re-assembly, we were able to put the composter together. if the fastenings (nuts, bolts and screws) were made of stainless steel and the end-plates made of stainless steel and the latches were made of stainless steel it would deserve four or five stars and last for many years. Unfortunately, the bright plating on the included steel screws will rust in a few seasons and another piece of junk will be added to our landfills. The manufacturing process in cutting corners to save a couple of bucks by not using stainless steel fastenings for a "lifetime" product was disappointing.
Can’t yet comment on how well the tumbler will work as to composting but putting it together was a “trial”. The instructions were not as clear as they could have been. The quality of the screws were terrible. The srews were definitely not heat treated to harden and the slot on the head mis-shapened when screwed in. We had to use a higher quality screw from our own supply.
A little hard to put together, but looks like a good composter. Sturdy and I believe it will do the job I want.
I have only had this tumbler for less than a week so my review can only be from that perspective. It did take about two hours to put it together which was what the reviews had stated. However, it was not a hard job. An extra set of hands were needed for a few spots. The tumbler is great with its wide-open, removable lid. It appears to be sturdy and is handling the weight of the first batch of compost. The indentions (for your hands) helps to easily rotate the tumbler. I followed a recipe, have it loaded, and heating up perfectly in the summer weather. There is no bad odor. The contents appear to be on track to turn out a great batch of compost material. The tumbler looks good and is not an eyesore in my garden. I love the size.
