I purchased this item for a craft, not for the intended use, and it is LOVELY! I wish I had room to store more of them.
This would not work, unless filled with sand.... not water. And it would have to go under a table, to give the umbrella support. You could not use it alone... unless you didn't put an umbrella in it. :)
It's okay for the price, but it doesn't hold the umbrellas in place. It also fills with water causing the umbrellas to rust.
This item works great as an umbrella base! Many of the complaints on here is because they are trying to use this as a stand, it's not a stand. The instructions clearly says to use with a table. So if your wanting something that will hold up umbrella by itself, that's an umbrella stand, this is not what you want. This item is a base, which works perfect for giving your umbrella more stability and some anchor weight to hold it in place WITH YOUR TABLE. I bought 3 of these, all work great.
I bought this just to make do until I could afford a better one. I filled it with water and use it with my table and it works GREAT! I'm NOT taking it back.
