Setup according to the instructions was relatively easy though my first impression of the intake and outtake attachment were that the plastic felt very cheap. There is also no power button on the pump so the only way to turn if off is to unplug it. Priming the pump is a nightmare. I had to push on the priming button for a solid 10-15 minutes before it finally started siphoning and as soon as the tank itself filled up, it started pouring water from under the motor head and flooded my tank cabinet. This filter is cheaper than other brands of similar capacity for a reason. Save yourself the headache and look for another option.
I bought this filter about a year ago for my turtle tank. It worked well for a few months before developing a leak in the filter intake block. I was able to fix the leak with some pipe tape and vaseline, but you cant tell its leaking for at least an hour, so it dumped a few gallons of water on my floor before I got home from work. about a week ago it developed the leak again after moving it into a new cabinet. It ruined the new coat of paint on the cabinet and swelled all of the wood, ruining the cabinet as a whole. I wouldn't buy this filter again, and I am switching over to a Fluval fx4 instead. The leak seems to be a common issue among other customers, and the filter block replacement is perpetually out of stock (probably because they break so often). If the leak didn't happen this would be a great filter!
I have bought both the 100 series and 300 series. Relatively quiet and efficient. Down side is quality of parts and plastic and the inability to replace the parts. Plastic primer button broke on the 100 series. The tabs snapped. The impeller rod shattered on the 300 series.
I recently bought this canister filter 360 for my 40 gal. I know its big for my tank but its planted and kinda over populated but the fish are doing very well. The water has never been this clear before and i am loving it. The only issue i have is snapping the latches back together. sometimes its hard to latch but other than that i have not had any leaks and its very quiet .
Purchased a week ago. Pulled all included items and documents from the package. Set up instructions are minimal and in some ways not real clear. There was a small clear bag with two “O” rings in it that did not show up in the item listing or have any notation about what they were or how they may be used. Once set up and turned on I experienced a lot of small air bubbles that were consistently expelled about every 20 seconds (quite loud). After calling support was told to put lubricant (not included with the filter) on the rubber seals. This helped but I still have small air bubbles coming out but only large “flushes” of air about every 10 minutes or so. As mentioned, there are very few instructions or information included. I had to get on the web and try to research a lot of answers, and a lot still unanswered. The product seems to be well constructed so I'm happy so far but expected more from Marineland.
