We really enjoy salads with dinner all year round. Depending on how carefully these bags of iceberg lettuce are handled in the store and by the person who packs the bags and delivers everything to my porch, it can be lovely and fresh all week, or it can be limp and translucently mushy by Wednesday. This week was a real disappointment. I had planned a chicken main course salad plate on Wednesday, but the salad was not edible. Yet when I select the salad myself, and pack my own carry bags, and handle it carefully, this product is rarely nasty before we use it up.
Most of the times I ordered this, the lettuce is fresh, with a nice crispness and crunch. I don't use it as a side dish because sometimes I just want a salad for dinner. Tastes great with any flavor of dressing. Then there are times when the lettuce is wilted and brown, and the date on the bag is the next day or already passed. If only the shoppers for pick up and delivery would shop as if it was going home with them or to a relatives house.
Sometimes you get lucky and they send you a bag that doesn't expire for a week. Mostly though you get bags that expire the next day and already look like they're turning. Either way, you're paying nearly $4 for essentially a head of iceberg lettuce shredded so it's not a great value, but still cheaper than the fancier salads. If you have your own kitchen just make your own salads and save money.
I bought this item on July 23. I'm writing this review on July 26. I have to throw this lettuce out because it's bad. It says it's good until the 31st. This is the second time that I've gotten lettuce from Walmart that has been bad within a short amount of time from purchasing it and I've had to throw it out.
Last bag was on the verge of expiring and already looked like it was well on its way. This bag was actually expired and Walmart expects me to bring it in for a return...I'm NOT keeping rotting food in my fridge until it;s convenient to swing by Walmart. Some of us are DISABLED WALMART!!
