Bought 2 of these in purple for my front porch steps and they are beautiful with hibiscus planted in both. Not sure how the "self watering" system will work but I added a layer of capillary mat on top of the shelf extending all the way to the bottom to help. Hope these hold up to our WI winters. I plan to drain any water from but leave them outside with cut greenery for winter.
I bought two of this planter to pretty-up a stretch of crumbling concrete between my house and the driveway. They do look great--we've had compliments from strangers walking by--and I think they will be perfect for blueberries. We can't grow blueberries in the garden because our soil and water are too alkaline, but with this planter I am able to control the pH of the soil and water much easier. I have only two minor complaints: 1. They did not come with holes to access the root-watering reservoir (not a problem now, since I am watering them from the top to help them get established) 2. The plastic is not smooth, and so there are always little bits of dust/dirt getting stuck on the outside. I imagine this would not be so noticeable with a darker planter, and it's not noticeable from a distance, but it is still annoying. Spraying the sides with a hose doesn't seem to help much, maybe because the bits are stuck in tiny indents.
I bought one of these planters two years ago. It has sat outside my front door for all this time. I can't vouch for the other colors, but white has stood up well. I have had several kinds of plants growing in it and all have done well. In the Texas summer heat, its water reservoir is a "lifesaver." So I just bought another one for outside the garage doors. I hope to grow a camellia in it. Stay Tuned!
I used the idea of liter soda bottles or other plastic bottles to fill up space in the bottom after you have filled the reservoir. It still takes a lot of soil. Some of my pots look better than others, though I don't know why. I am assuming that have planted something incorrectly as they all contain the same plants. They are a sharp looking planter and I do like how light weight they are.
I was looking for a planter for outside my business as well as at my home. The tall one is perfect for the areas by entries (doors). It's sturdy and yet lightweight. Perfect for showy bright geraniums eye catching from down the street. I live in MN so was looking for all weather durability. This is it. Buying several. -
