I owned both the original Encore Gust and now the Encore Gust 2 and I am disappointed with the durability of the new design. The original Gust had leather lining on the inner side of the edges and they lasted a long time. The new design has a polyester fabric where the leather used to be and it wore through really quickly. These are comfortable shoes, great design, but for the sake of little bit of extra leather cost they really compromised the durability of the shoe. I hope they start using leather again in their Gust 3 design, otherwise they are not worth the cost.

I have owned four pair of these shoes. So far, I have not tried a similar style from a competitor. Although I find the style and shoe most comfortable, I continue to have problems with early wearing out of the bond at the front of the outsole with the upper, and on my most recent pair, the collar has worn out extremely early. I do not intend to purchase a fifth pair without exploring other brands' open heal models.
