Never again! The application requires way too much sanding. Not worth it. It is impossible to apply without bubbles. Streaks, etc. You will spend 10x more timing fine sanding. I had to strip the entire piece. Went back to stain and wipeon poly.
Absolutely an Awful product. Have not experienced a more difficult wood working product ever in my 50 year of woodworking. Very difficult to work with, zero forgiveness. Very difficult to apply evenly. Short pot time. Have tried every trick in the book, terrible results. Will go back to stain and lacquer process.
Bought this product in order to save a step using poly and stain together on a custom hutch top. Turns out it is extremely light color and takes at least 2 to 3 coats to get color over bare wood. Followed the directions and allowed proper amount of time to dry and sanded between coats. The finish did dry smooth and seems to be a hard finish. The biggest issue I have is the terrible off gassing. It's been two months and the fumes coming from this finish is still as string as first applied. My entire shop and everything in it smells like this finish no matter how much air flow I put into it even two months later. I do not recommend this product for any type of indoor use unless you are prepared for fumes for several months. It's understood that oil based finishing take longer to cure, even up to 30 days but this is extreme.
The stain is uneven when dries. A light even coat is applied but when it dries it's flat and blotchy. The bare wood turned out good but it took a few times of sanding and reapplying. The biggest trouble we're having is the post we picked up from the lumber store. They where pre finished so we roughed them up and put a coat on. The stain is acting completely different on the post then it did on the stair caps(bare wood). The stain is like water and dries really fast and uneven. We tried to buff the unevenness out with steel wool but the finish is gone once we get it evened out. Any help would b appreciated, the project is st a stand still.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Minwax never lets me down, it always provides good coverage and lasts a long time. There are always lots of shades to choose from. Easy application and convenient can sizes to easily fit a brush into.
