Mod Podge Unpainted Wood Resin Pouring Plaque, Leaf, 12" x 12"

Review of Plaid Mod Podge resin pouring wood plaque The image on the label for this plaque shows seashells on the side, but this is in fact supposed to be a river, not the beach. I had to buy the resin to review this product which I thought was relatively expensive ($15). For those interested, I did see this particular plaque in-store at Walmart as part of a kit that has everything already ready. If you are going that route it would probably be cheaper than buying separate. I have not poured the resin for this yet. I looked online for instructions and it is a somewhat detailed process (supposed to wear a respirator mask for safety) and I haven't had the chance to sit down and devote the time to doing it yet. The “ends” of the river on either side of the plaque do not have a raised edge (picture attached), so you would need to put something there to keep the resin contained so it doesn't just pour off the edges. Also, the description for this says it's 12 x 12 in, but it's actually 12 x 10 in. Overall three out of five stars.

I like the design of these coasters, they will be great for the project I have in mind. The only downside is, with the way they were packaged, the glue holding them from shifting in the package sort of didn't want to let go when I went to take them out of the package, so there's a chip out of the bottom of one. I don't think it will be too much of a problem, but it would be nice since these are a soft wood if the packaging were rethought.

Okay, so let me first say-I am not a very crafty person. I thought this looked like a somewhat easy thing to try. I had these coaster molds, the two-part resin and alcohol inks to dye the mod podge. First, the directions with these coasters are completely non-existent, so I really don't know how they are intended to be used. We ended up painting some slightly-colored mod podge onto the whole coaster thinking that would sort of seal them so they could be used as coasters. Then we used mod podge with more color to fill in the hole. One of the five coasters was leaking from the bottom, which is one reason for the lower rating (another reason being the lack of instruction). I think if someone out there is good with this type of craft, this could be a decent product, but for a beginner, there's no way! The ink also dyed the coaster where we didn't want it to (outside the hole), so I'm not sure how to avoid that. Anyway, it was interesting to try, but I wouldn't purchase again.

This review is for the unpainted Leaf plaque for resin pouring. The plaque itself is perfect and ready for use. No need to sand it down or pretreat in any way. We used it as a decorative piece for a "wild one" birthday party, and had all the guests sign it. I added a picture of what the product looked like before we peed the resin and stained it. Would devonstellt recommend this.

I had 5 coasters to practice with my first time working with resin, and I highly recommend this as a starting point. I don't have a lot of free time as a mom of three young kids, but this a good art project if you are wanting to dabble in something new. I mixed up my resin/hardener liquids, (mine took 3 minutes each time) added a couple drops of metallic dye, and poured it in the coasters. It was a fun process, and the fact that the coasters have a cut out with edges made the process easy! I might try to stain these with wood stain to give them a finished effect, but overall I love how simple and enjoyable and relatively simple this process was for a beginner!
