NewAir AI-100S 28 lb. Portable Ice Maker

Pros- like the drain- good ice sizes. Pretty fast. Purchased as we everyone is home we keep running out of ice. Now we have plenty and are able to store some for weekends and when we go outdoors .Cons- none.

Makes ice great, quite running.Love the hole in the ice. The only down side is I wish the ice froze colder or harder. The ice is probably just below freezing and as soon as you use it or touch it it melts a bit. Not enough to ruin a drink just gets your hand wet.

Our very OLD "Clear Ice Under-the-counter Ice Machine" is dying. I purchased this one because a replacement was way too expensive for what we were using. But, alas, I am an ice snob. The NewAir ice machine produces ice just fine. It doesn't hook up to a water source, so I am constantly purifying and filling the water. The "bucket" holds about 3 glasses worth of ice. The problem lies with the ice itself. Since it is not "clear ice" it melts really quickly (even in insulated glasses) and dilutes my drink. Clear ice on the other hand will last sometimes more than 24 hours in an insulated cup. To remedy the melting, I try to dump the ice into a bag that I then put in my freezer. Alas, another issue, it's no different tasting (after a while in the freezer) than crescent or refrigerator produced ice because it can pick up scents from the refrigerator. So, in conclusion, if you are o.k. with refrigerator ice, you will like this ice machine. If you are trying to replace a clear ice machine and you truly want better tasting and long lasting ice, don't get this machine.

I've been using this for a month now and it is definitely a life saver. It's small enough to sit on my counter and look pretty but keeps my large family with enough ice to keep us cool this summer.

I purchased this ice maker because we always seem to run out every time the whole family gets together for a big meal. The average cycle is about 10 minutes to make 9 cubes. I then purchased commercial grade ice bags and easily made 50 pounds of ice in just a couple of days. The only complaint I have is the ice basket is a tad on the small size and needs to be emptied about every hour to keep production on the move. Otherwise this machine is quick, quiet and takes up about the same counter space as a bread maker. Hopefully it will be durable as well.
