The Onn antenna amplifier did basically what I wanted it to do. Is it perfect? No, but it did strengthen the signal on my local Nashville ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox Stations. I have a flat square antenna made by Craig and it was able to pull in both ABC and NBC which were 2 of the hardest stations to get in and the 2 that I needed most. The signal wouldn't even bother coming in with a lot of other antennas i've tried and I live between 35-45 minutes from the nearest towers. The amplifier took the channels from being weak to fluctuating normal/good and they are staying in. I am in the process of cancelling my overpriced cable (after my current billing cycle) and going with Directv Now online tv service since they recently added my local CBS and Fox stations and the service works nearly flawless in free trial testing on my Roku Express. I have my antenna located inside a storage shed on my apartment patio so that helps eliminate the need to hang the antenna or the cable on the wall or have the cable running across the floor causing a trip hazard just to get signal.
I picked this up at my local Walmart because I was getting a very weak signal on my NBC affiliate. I bought an outdoor/attic antenna and mounted it in my attic. It was rated for about a 35 mile range so I thought I wouldn't need a signal amplifier at all. Unfortunately, no matter how I adjusted my antenna, I was not receiving a good signal on just one channel NBC. So I installed this and lo-n-behold, I instantly got the boost I needed to get a steady and strong enough signal to watch NBC. It was installed just behind my receiver as I only have one TV that was hooked up to the antenna. It is worth noting that I had bought a cheaper one (Wsky) that used USB power that did not work at all.
I set my antenna system up with an outdoor garage attic mounted antenna ($50) and 18 dB amplifier ($40) at the antenna and 50 feet of RJ6 to the basement where a amplified splitter broke out the signal to 6 TV's around the house. The splitter boosted each line 8 dB where 30 feet of RJ6 ran to each TV. To my frustration, channels 2 thru 6 would pixel once and a while on two TV's. I discovered my antenna was not "tuned best" for that group of channels (I have a 5 foot antenna and need a 9 foot one for all frequencies}. I checked my signal strength on my problem TV's (shows on-screen at power up) and neither were at the highest "bar". So I put the Onn Signal amp just behind the TV with the most glitching and now it displays channels without issue. And the bars are still not at max signal. There isn't a power light on the signal amplifier, so the only way I know it works is that "I see more more TV display glitching". DO note the instructions say to keep everything powered OFF, then attach TV, then attach cable, then power up the amplifier. This is important to try to do in this way so to not damage the new device or TV input.
It took a little trial sand error to find the right spot for my antenna with this amplifier but I finally did and am thankful for the extra channels
We were hoping to receive additional channels with this device; however we didn't receive any additional channels. Had to return.
