I purchased this device a little over a month ago and I was sceptical. I needed a way to keep the kitten off the dogs and away from the doggy door. Pro's: Small transmitter (smaller than a smoke detector) and receiver collar. Not too strong of a shock. Seems to work for a long time on one set of batteries (over 1 month now). Cons: The receiver is a bit larger than I expected being a Cat was part of the marketing. The CR2032 batteries were very weak when received. Now for my experience. First of all the collar strap is wide for a cat, it looks normal for a medium sized dog. The receiver is not heavy. I was able to fit this device to my roton dog attacking kitten and he didn't mind it. A little scratching but that stopped in a few days. He wore the collar all day with no complaints. I take the collar off at night or I loosen it up if I let him sleep with it. The next day I powered the electronics up and placed the transmitter on it's highest setting and put it under the dogs bed. Well he attacked the dogs yet again. The problem was the probes were not touching the kittens skin (lots of fur), so I tightened the collar about 1/8" and tried again, try number three works great. The kitted was hunting the dogs and he was creeping up under the bed when "WHAM!" and he shot out of the room like he was shot in the rear. Now folks, there is no need to shave the kittens neck so the probes touch skin. Over a few minutes or more of activity, they will find a way through the fur and eventually touch some skin. Let me state that I first tried the device on my arm. It was a very mild shock. I have a bark collar that is much more devastating. It took a few attack attempts before the kitten gave up, but he was trying. I placed the transmitter to the side of the doggy door on a medium power setting so he would not get too close. He has not dared to get that close. The sound the collar emits (beep beep) does deter him and I am training him to react to the beep before a shock occurs, and eventually to learn to leave the dogs alone and don't go through the doggy door without the collar on. Yes, he can run right through the warning sound and escape being shocked so you need to be smart how you place the transmitter. When he sees the transmitter, he knows to be careful. I will remove the collar for a day or two to see what he's learned. He's learning but he gets some of the kitten energy going and he's almost unstoppable. Is it perfect? Eh, not really but this has solved one major problem, he will not go near the doggy door. The other problem I have is protecting two older dogs who do not like those kitten claws. The dogs like cats, but they are not use to being attacked. If I purchased a transmitter for every location the dogs would lay down, the kitten would have no place to be. With that said, it would be fantastic if there was a small collar mounted transmitter that I could attach to the dogs. So, if the Petsafe folks are reading this, Do you have a collar mounted transmitter to protect the other pets in the house from the holy terror on four legs? As for the ratings on this product... I can't really deduct any stars, it does work as advertised and the price was fair for a little peace in the house. Now if I could just locate a collar transmitter.
I bought this product in October to keep my cat off the counter. Recently it just stopped working. I replaced all the batteries and tried all the troubleshooting. The collar isn't reacting at all. It's a shame spending a lot of money on something that will fail a few months later
These are worthless. They don't work.
We have the system to keep the cat from going out the dog door. Worked well until batteries died in the collar. The small tabs to hold the batteries broke off removing the batteries. They are too small and weak to stand the removal of the batteries. Some modification must be done to strenghten the system, I have had to order another collar.
It didn't work for my cat. Perhaps her hair is too long.
