We received this nipple from the weeSpring Parent Panel, but unfortunately we were not even able to use it because it leaked so badly. When we tried to feed our baby with it, it leaked all over my husband and her. I'm not sure what we did wrong or if it was just a defective nipple, but we couldn't figure out how to get it to stop. Having said that, we haven't had any problems with the nipples and bottles in the Philips Avent Gift Set.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this bottle nipple. My mostly exclusively breast fed daughter takes a bottle once to twice a day from her father to give me a break. Once we discovered Avent's natural baby bottles, it made those bottle feedings a breeze for him. We tried the Variflow nipples but she had a difficult time getting used to flow, mostly because it came out faster than she was used to. We are sticking with the ONES for now and will try the variflows again when she gets a little older and needs to move up a size.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My baby is 3 months old and exclusively breastfed, so having a nipple that grows with baby is definitely a huge plus as bottle feeding doesn't happen very often, if at all. When trying out different flow rates to see what baby prefers, this is so much easier than traditional nipples. First, you normally have to buy the different flow rates (adds up quickly especially if you haven't found a preferred brand), then while you're feeding baby you would have to pause, switch out the nipple, try again with the new one, etc. I love that with the Variflow all you have to do is turn the bottle so that the number I, II, or III etched in the nipple is pointing down toward baby's chin. I tested out the different flows before trying it on my daughter by putting in some water and turning the bottle to see how fast it dripped out and there was a definite difference in flow corresponding to the numbers. All that being said, my 3 month old does NOT like taking a bottle. She tends to play with the nipple and then let whatever milk comes out of it dribble out of her mouth. So as for which flow rate she would prefer or if it relieves colic or gas, I am not sure; but not for lack of trying. Out of all the bottles we've tried she has taken to the Philips Avent Natural Baby Ultra Soft Bottle. If the Variflow nipple were also ultra soft, I would have given the product 5 stars instead of 4. The product is very easy to clean and assemble/disassemble. Thank you to WeeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this product to try and review.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As the working Mama to three breastfeed boys, I have had several different bottle brands for my boys to use while I was at work over the years. None of these was ever Philips Avent, so thank you weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me the opportunity to test this bottle. The bottle has three, easy to assemble and clean pieces, that were well constructed therefore did not leak. I have to say I was intrigued to see if one nipple could have variable flow rates. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it did work! Please see photos of different flow rates which is achieved by simply rotating the bottle. This would be great if you have two babies using different flow rates as you would always have the right nipple. Unfortunately my little one was not a fan of this nipple at any flow rate (he is a picky boy, this just wasn't for him). Also, I found interesting was the manufacturer recommended changing nipples every three months for hygiene reasons. At that timeframe most babies are ready to change flow rates anyways making a variable flow rate nipple unnecessary. As I only use bottles for one baby at a time with only breast milk I didn't find this feature for me, but if you doe need a variable flow nipple it absolutely does work.
I both breastfeed and bottle feed my baby so I love having an option for bottle feeding that is compatible with breastfeeding. It is very helpful to have a choice of different flow rates when it comes to bottle nipples. I prefer to start with the slowest rate and work up from there. I try to match the bottle nipple flow rate with the rate that my breastmilk flows at that time. In the first few months, I have a very fast breastmilk flow so I try to match this with my baby's bottle so that he does not form a preference and will keep feeding from both the breast and the bottle. It is nice to have the option to be able to customize this to the needs of you and your baby. I try to give my son a bottle every few days to make sure that he will keep liking and taking one. This helps provide me with some freedom because I am a second time mom with a toddler to run after as well! I have tried a few different bottles/nipples and my son definitely liked this one. I would recommend this bottle nipple to all of my friends who are trying to maintain both breast and bottle feeding. I received this product from the weeSpring Parent Panel. Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this Nipple to try and review!
