If it had a better antenna...wow it would be great. No NBC reception here in wmass. bummer. It needed a better antenna design. all in one uhf/vhf fm in one jack. wouldn't cost much more for that feature. And I called for a antenna Philips recommends. He said its discontinued. No offer of a suitable after marked brand. So if you buy another one, you still need the supplied one for fm, which isn't that great either. Designed right and it's perfect for the kitchen counter.
I bought a refurb earlier model 2 or 3 yrs ago. I live 22mi from the Phoenix mountain-top TV transmitters, and my reception is very good with minimal tweaking. I can watch from my parked car, and I've even picked up a Tucson PBS station 100 mi away from my southward-facing 2nd-story porch! CON: The original telescoping aerial snapped off and I've had no success fixing it, so I use another mfr's cheap 6" aerial for TV (not as good as orig., but it works). Unfortunately for FM radio I have to use the broken aerial because of the mini-jack. I'd love to upgrade to a telescoping aerial that includes the FM mini-plug. Any suggestions?
I bought this TV based on all the great reviews. In pre-cable days, we used to get tons of over the air stations. Unfortunately this set only picked up 3 stations in the kitchen and only one had a quality picture. I tried other rooms and at best I could get 15 stations but only 3 with a quality picture. Apparantly you need to live in an urban setting or buy a booster antenna to enjoy this TV in the suburbs. From what I saw, the pictures are very good and if you live where over the air signals are strong it is a good TV for the money but not worth it if you need to attach it to cable or a booster antenna. Fortunately, WalMart accepted my return, no problem.
I guess my expectations outran my judgement. The TV does what it promises to do, but that promise is limited. Even with an add-on antenna the TV did not bring in many interesting channels. I was, however, impressed with the quality of the picture of those channels that were accessible.
I purchased this TV to be able to track hurricane status when my area is affected and electrical power is lost. Although ths situation has not happened thus far in 2011, I have tested the product and it will fulfill my need if these conditions occur.
