I should have known this camera would be terrible based off of the price tag. When I received the camera in the mail, it was obviously used, even though the description stated it was new. The screen was scratched all to heck, the cord was literally wrapped around the unit, and the box was smashed. After having this camera for ONE day, the unit got so hot while sitting in my car (with the A/C on, mind you) that the screen fell OFF of the camera WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I tried to return it back to Walmart, and they said they couldn't take it because it came from a private seller, that uses Walmart.com as their sales market. They gave me a phone number to call about returning it, and the phone rang to a private voicemail. I left a message and no one has ever called me back. That same day, I bought a $40 camera from Walmart and haven't had a problem with it one.
I bought this camera when I seen them on sale in January of 2017 and the price was $7 so depending on where you shop you can't buy the memory card for that so I have it a chance and it works just fine. Already filmed a wreck in front of me proving the driver of a car that said he couldn't avoid hitting a truck that changed lanes at the wrong time was lying and the poor guy in the truck didn't have to get sued by a money hungry leaches. The truck changed lanes with a car on side of him and the car seen him and started to move but all of the sudden yanked his wheel to the left running into the truck. Not only did he see the truck coming but he ran into it most probably to sue. The people in the car were all calling for their Mouton collars (neck brace) and each an ambulance because they said the truck came out of nowhere and could of killed them. The cops seen my video and told them they would be getting a ticket and would be liable for medical bills. All of the sudden they were healed and wanted to go home.
I bought mine from walmart B&M, when they went on sale after Christmas. There are certainly PROs and CONs with this device. NOTE: When you connect it the first time, when you are setting the Time & Date, do not connect to your PC's USB port. All you will see on-screen is the words, "disk drive". Be sure to connect it to a normal USB charging device, like a USB-to-AC adapter. (or the enclosed 12-volt DC cigarette socket power adapter). Though cheap, this unit is smart enough to detect whether it is connected to a USB port with NO DATA CONNECTIVITY [like a charger] Vs. being connected to a computer, WHICH HAS POWER & DATA CONNECTIVITY. If you connect to a charger the camera's MENU will come up. PROs: 1. the menu actually works . I have tested several other dash-cams and have experienced having to go through all sorts of gyrations in order to simply access the menu. It was easy to set up the menu options like Date, Time, looping time, resolution, etc. 2. PC Cam or Dash cam - there is an actual choice of 2 modes, within the menu. For anyone NOT using this as a dashcam because the quality is not what you like, you might repurpose your cam as a PC camera for video conferencing or in-house security, like a home video recorder DVR. 3. Includes a microSD card [though it is a small 4GB one] to get you going, at least. 4. Uses a common USB-to-Mini-B [5-pin on mini-B end] USB type cable. 5. camera has a PHOTO mode, in addition to VIDEO mode. [Might be of use as an emergency, capture an accident type of camera]. CONs: 1. Battery life is short. After testing a few Lower end cameras, it appears that manufacturer's of these cheap devices install a very small, short life battery. I assume only lasting long enough to close and save the video files. I have left various cheap dash-cams of this type attached to a USB power source for hours, only to find that once disconnected they only lasted like 1-2 minutes then powered themselves OFF. So if you are setting up the device and/or changing MENU settings, be sure to connect to a USB power source. 2. Front view only - but I knew that it only had 1 camera before I bought it. 3. limited distance night illumination via the IR LEDs. You won't see far at night time with this camera. Like so many other dashcams out there. Comments: A basic, low end dash-cam For someone wanting a better dashcam, IMHO you should consider a dual, 2-camera unit, so as to capture both FRONT window and BACK window vehicle activity. Especially when an accident might involve: - someone rear ending you - a single vehicle colliding with a line of vehicles [and your vehicle is in that LINE of vehicles]! Another reason, which could save you $100's of dollars is, having a front view camera showing the TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS YELLOW when you entered the intersection PLUS a rear camera showing that the LIGHT WAS STILL YELLOW, as you exiting the intersection. I mean, let's face it, with all the financial shortages facing the courts and law enforcement, all of those B$ traffic tickets make up for some of the shortfall. It's true THEY don't necessarily call it a QUOTA but show me a cop that hasn't written any/many tickets, and I'll show you a cop that most likely has not advanced in their career too. It might be called something like their "monthly 5 & 5", [respond to 5 police call outs and conduct 5 outside the office, traffic tickets] Better yet, some DIY-ers might simply build their own. You basically require a: - DVR unit to record video and/or audio - cameras to cover areas you wish to record Some folks buy a small, permanently mounted , in-vehicle DVR unit and then install 4 cameras [front, back, left, right] to feed video inputs into it. [some DVR units are as small as, approximately, 2" x 6" x 6"] There are several units out there that use either/or solid state hard drives or SDHC cards to capture all video. Or even a small ITX-format home computer, if built with all solid state drives [SSD and/or SDHC] could also be used. Then, to EXTEND the range of a person's night vision via IR LEDs, they could add separate, higher powered IR LEDs to each camera, so as to extend the viewable night vision range.
The camera works fine, just doesn't have a lot of memory, and video are not in frames. Great for the price.
Works great. Works and looks so good i bought my dad one as well..
