I purchased this Pioneer stereo for my boat to replace an old AM-FM cassette deck stereo. The stereo looked nice in the store, and installation was more or less the same as any other car stereo I've worked with. The unit sounds OK, but the controls that allow selection of various features are maddeningly non-intuitive. The several buttons and and the large selector knob on the left side of the faceplate each have several functions depending upon the sequence in which they are pressed, and it's generally impossible to know which mode the button is in, so trying to make even simple changes (L-R balance, for example) requires lengthy trial and error. To make matters worse, many of the buttons carry labels that really don't help explain their function; one of the main buttons (that is supposed to turn the unit on and off, but often doesn't...) is labelled SRC. I can't count the number of times I've had to pull out the incomprehensible manual and sift through its microscopic print to find out what the buttons do. The stereo seems to often spontaneously enter "demo mode" where it cycles through a battery-draining demonstration of its features using the LCD display. It's very eye-catching in the store, but very difficult to turn off to access features or the setup menu. I've had to disconnect the battery several times to get to the setup menu to turn of the demo mode. The stereo also comes with a remote control. Mine ceased working about six months after I installed the unit. Even new batteries haven't brought it back to life. This Pioneer stereo - and the more expensive, higher-end Pioneer models to which it is similar - is an example of terrible design; my smartphone is a hundred times more sophisticated in what it can do, but still much easier to use. I use this stereo primarily when my boat is docked; I cannot imagine trying to use this stereo while driving a car. Buy this stereo if you like spending hours reading product manuals and pushing buttons. You may eventually figure out how to turn the darn thing off....
I bought this because it had the USB port, assuming I would be able to play MP3s from my Iphone 4s but when i plug my phone into it I get a "N/A USB" message which means it doesn't support my USB devise. A waste of time to install, uninstall and return.
