I ice fish and stay overnight in a hub style shelter. I bring 2 generic CO detectors and then this meter. The other ones will just alarm if you're in real danger, this one goes off at 30 ppm which is pretty cool. Cool and annoying because OSHA will allow up to 50 ppm. Found ourselves averaging around 25-30 ppm which I was comfortable with. No headaches/dizziness. So yeah the alarm can get annoying going off but better safe than sorry. It's not super loud but you'd attract some attention. My brother has a commercial meter that probably wasn't new when he started using it, which means it could need to be re-calibrated but when we tested that one in a bigger travel trailer with two buddy heaters and a couple windows cracked, it was around 7 ppm so I think 25 ppm seems accurate being inside a slightly vented insulated ice house with less than half the cubic feet. Unfortunately by the time I got this meter, his unit definitely needed to be re-calibrated so we couldn't do a side by side. His was reading off the charts. Also, to test this meter before fishing, I left the heater on in the bathroom with the door closed for 5ish minutes to test, was around 7 ppm. Could be accurate, I was in the ice shelter a lot longer. Lastly, tried the car exhaust test too, alarm went off almost immediately. I did a lot of research before buying and I was sold on this one. Best bang for your buck, just don't expect it to perform the same as $500 meters, take the readings with a grain of.
It works perfectly as far as I am able to tell. Tested it on a wall heater which showed 1 ppm and then the car exhaust to see if the ppm goes up. It did with the car exhaust and the alarm went off too.
I stupidly couldn't figure out that the unit had the rubber covering that had to be removed to access the battery. Once I got past that and used it, it worked well. I feared I was being scammed by my air maintenance service that said I had carbon monoxide leaking from my furnaces. I took the unit to the attic after I received it and it didn't register anything from any of the blowing air sources. To test the unit I took it down to my car and placed it near the exhaust and it registered carbon monoxide and started beeping. This pretty much validated my suspicions that I was being scammed and the unit saved me from from panicking and spending an inordinate amount of money on furnace repairs. It was very easy to use and worth the money.
I ordered this meter for piece of mind, because my Kidde CO alarm won't display a ppm below 11, and since I have an old furnace, I was worried my home's ppm could be as high as 10. I've had this meter for 2 days now, and my random readings have ranged from 0 to 3 ppm, so I am happy. For now, I am assuming it's accurate, since my Kidde's peak (and normal) displays have been 0 (indicating a ppm < 11).
very accurate - real time sensor monitoring - updates very fast in real time. Measures all the way down to zero ... alarm sounds at 30 ppm - backlight is nice for using at night - COMES WITH a 9v battery which is inside the battery compartment and you need to 'install' it before use
