RCA 5.1 cu ft Chest Freezer, Black

I researched several small freezers and finally chose this one because of its low energy usage and energy star rating--which was mentioned on its box but not in its descriptions--and its low price. I read the reviews and followed the recommendations to unpack the thing before I took it home. There were no dents so I accepted it. Wal Mart employees put it in my truck for me. I didn't want to pay extra for delivery. There were some negative comments online about the freezer's reliability so I bought the extended warranty for $26 which adds four years to the basic one-year coverage. The Wal Mart price with the extended warranty was still cheaper than what it sold for elsewhere. I figure I'm covered for five years so if it dies down the road, chances are I'll get a replacement freezer. The inside is plenty big enough for a family of two. I used some small cardboard boxes for organizing. The freezer comes with one basket, with room for one more which I would have bought if I had seen it offered. The compressor is extremely quiet. The click of the light coming on when it runs is louder than the compressor itself, and it never seems to run for more than sixty seconds, and not very often at that. Our house is all solar, and we keep a journal of energy usage. Even through three weeks of heavy overcast, the power consumed by the freezer hasn't been great enough to make much of a difference in our usage. At 172 khw, this freezer seems like a winner.

This quiet, elegant-looking freezer is the perfect supplement to limited freezer space. I was worried about shipping damage after reading other reviews, but it arrived (California) promptly, and in perfect condition. Not only that, but the delivery folks brought it up my front steps right to the door, which is definitely above and beyond the call of duty. I am so grateful for this functional, efficient little freezer, and the black is especially nice looking. I did allow it to stand 24 hours before plugging it in; not sure if that was necessary but it certainly did get down to temperature quickly and is running quietly and well. That it's energy-star rated so highly is definitely another plus. A great purchase, and highly recommended.

Was shipped to store . No damage when opened. Got it home and plugged and cooled down to set temp. Overnight. Put already frozen meats and food in it and it has been working perfect. This is our indoor freezer for our kitchen so we don't have to go outside to the shop everyone we want something frozen. Perfect addition for the house.

This size freezer is perfect for our household. We didn't want a bigger deep freezer because we wanted to integrate this into our kitchen. I'm not one of those who wants a deep freezer in the garage. The nice thing about keeping this in the kitchen is you don't have a thick layer of ice since the freezer doesn't battle the Florida heat in the garage. It's fairly quiet and the finish doesn't allow for fingerprints. The only thing I would want more from a deep freezer like this is a stainless steel finish. I would definitely buy another one of these!

After watching my freezer "fall off" of the truck and "rolled up" 3 steps to my front door, I was very concerned if it would be banged up or even working properly. This was addressed immediately with the delivery guy. Surprisingly no dents or dings were noted and it appears to be operating fine. Glad I purchased the protection plan. I will update at a later date if anything changes. So far great product. Good size. Plenty of space. Fits nicely in the area it was placed. Operates well on #4. Very little noise. Looks great!
