So I got one about 18 months ago-One day it just started turning itself off and on, channel surfing and increasing/decreasing volume at will- Come to find out these have a known, high failure rate in the small circuit board -(wished I had known sooner)- So to replace this board, the cheapest place to fix it was around $600, ( highly unlikely to even consider fixing it) and Ive been told by the RCA authorized repair shop, this part is out of stock alot--Forget about contacting RCA- Their issue is "Should of bought the warranty". Well if I had known the TV wouldn't last 2 years, I probably would have--I had an RCA home theater system that went out in 2 months, so I should have known better- I wouldn't recommend another RCA product to my worst enemy!!
Was really excited about buying a 52' tv for only $993.88 in Oct 2006. Bought online and when tv was delivered I went out and spent another $800 for a unit to house the tv.. got the satellite service for hdtv and all; And I just thought my eyes were bad! I only could watch blurry visions and even closed one eye to watch! So I rarely use the television and prefer to watch the 27' in the den.. so I go to turn the rca 52' on today and all I get is on for a few seconds with nothing as in picture or sound and then off.. I did the un-plug reset and all but no luck! This t.v is not worth the money... if I had used the t.v daily then it may have been noticeable sooner...
We purchased this t.v. on Feb. 5, 2008 and it was great at first. We couldn't believe what a good deal we had found and wondered why it was only $748. On March 20, 2008, only about seven weeks later, the picture went out and the screen was completely black. There was sound but no picture! Luckily we saved our receipt and were able to get a full refund. We will never buy an RCA again!
I too had had this tv almost 4 yrs, the power light will not stay on so I would not recomend this or any big screen tvs....it seems like they dont last as long as a tube tv.....the first one I had lasted 9 years which wasnt too bad. but this one not even 4 yrs.....next tv we get will be a tube type.
My wife and I have been in the market for an HD for some time. After comparing LCD's, Plasma's, and Projections we felt the picture quality of the projection TV's were far better. We then compared prices and found that Walmart had the best bang for the buck. We purchased this TV two days before the Superbowl along with a set of HD rabbit ears. All I can say about the quality of the picture of the game is FANTASIC!!! You could almost count the blades of grass. And this was with rabbit ears. I can hardly wait to see what my satellite HD picture will look like when I get that ordered. This TV is well worth the money. The sound is not bad, but when hooked through my surround sound stereo with componet cables and a coaxial digital audio cable it is nothig short of AWESOME!!! We watched one of our favorite DVD'S on our progessive scan DVD player and noticed that the colors were much more vivid and heard back ground sounds from the movie that we had never heard before. The only negative is that you must cycle through all of the inputs to get to a particular setting. Very, very minor though. The set up is easy. Once I had all of the needed cables, I had it up, fine tuned, calibrated, and running in less that 30 minutes. If you are in the market for an excellent quality HDTV with very little investment, then this is the TV for you. Be warned though, it is a big honkin' TV, so make sure you have the room.
