Rubbermaid, What is the process for getting a replacement lid?? Looks like I'm on the same boat as everyone else here. I've had my cooler for just about 2 years and the lid flew off. I'm bummed out bc I use it a lot. I would give it 5 stars but the lid seams to catch wind even when it's on there tight. I had flown off twice before but I was able to recover it the first 2 times. I'll have to figure out a way to hold it down next time.
Ok, just about everyone has at least one of these coolers. They are handy, work well, and are great for camping, large groups, etc. HOWEVER, how many reviews must you read that the lid flew off going down the road before you guys are going to A) come up with a better product, or B) Make an affordable lid that we can buy separately?! Yes, we love our coolers. Yes, it's hot out and my contractor husband made the mistake of taking this cooler onsite so his crew could have cold water. Yes, the lid blew off on the way home. I happened to be barely behind him going home so I tried to find it but to no avail. Come ON, Rubbermaid. You are better than this.
We bought 20 of these for our bicycling club and in two years, have seen six lids lost. They are fine if transported inside a vehicle but in the wind, the lids come off and fly away. I'm disappointed that Rubbermaid has not modified the design after many reports of lost lids and also doesn't offer a lid replacement option.
I bought this, put some ice and about 5 gallons of water. I tied it up to my work truck and half of the water spilled... the next day the lid flew off!!! This products' only flaw is the lid.
If you are a home-brewer, this is by far the best cooler for the money you can use as a mash tun (soak your grains to get the malts and sugars out). When you add the strike water at 158 degrees, it will hold the temperature to 152 degrees after an hour, with a couple of stirs. Everyone I know who home brews (all grain) has one or two of these.
