I have purchased other office items and have always been satisfied with them, good quality and an excellent price.
I read many reviews and researched other items before my purchase. At first I was a little apprehensive due to the 'difficulties' of assembly that many spoke of in their reviews. But this bookcase had the look that I wanted for my home office so I figured that I would just work it out. I was most pleasantly surprised that the instructions and diagrams were so easy to follow that it was impossible to make a mistake! I don't know what other folks were talking about! Everything was clear, concise and complete. All hardware was included, parts labeled and it went together perfectly. I am a 65 year old woman and I assembled the bookshelf myself in less than an afternoon. I am very satisfied with the product and actually may order another one for another room in my home. Additionally, the online order service and in-store pick-up process was flawless. Highly recommend!
I brought this because the answered questions on Walmart's web page said that the sides were one piece. When the bookcase was delivered the sides were two pieces. I could have brought a less expensive bookcase. I contacted Sauder and they said they changed the sides to two pieces in 2015 because of damage in shipping. I assembled but the moldings were difficult to install.
I had read several reviews on this product before buying it only to find out that the others were pretty much true. The biggest thing was setting this up.. no, it did not take an entire day, but it did take a couple hours. But even more, once we thought we had a part set up, we had to redo it a couple different times because it just wasn't quite right as we thought. Keep in mind, this is also after following the directions in the instruction packet. All my other ratings were based off putting the bookshelf together, because by the end of it, it did look nice but not worth the cost of putting everything together yourself. After it's all put together it really does look nice, even though you are able to see the shinny fake back of it. Next time we move, I will probably spend a couple extra bucks just to get a real wood/already put together bookshelf. This one is doing a really good job for now, I'm just glad it's done.
I've assembled a fair amount of furniture and always like Sauder. However this one is trickier than most. There are a lot of trim pieces that need to line up and are hard to get right. I also don't like the "hidden screws." All furniture I've assembled recently has "locking cams" instead. But it looks good and feels solid. Here are a few assembly tips: *Do not fully tighten trim pieces until the whole unit is assembled. At that point you'll see where things don't line up and can nudge them before tightening. *When it tells you to use the top and bottom horizontal trim as spaces, also use the middle trim piece as a spacer to avoid not leaving enough room between the vertical trim pieces. *When it tells you to attach 12 angle brackets, only do 10...leaving the bottom one on each side for later. This will allow you to use the bottom trim as a spacer as the directions suggest. *Put a quarter inch book between the floor and the side trim pieces as you attaching them to the angle brackets. The instructions tell you to leave a quarter inch gap, so a thin book works well. You'll still have to some realignment when finished, but this will make it close.
