They failed to advise, YOU HAVE TO PLUG THE BATTERY CHARGER IN AN OUTLET FOR IT TO EVEN WORK! Soooooo, how am I to do that WHEN I'M STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!? This battery charger was a horrible buy. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. I charged my battery for 2 days, outside my car because I didn't have a long enough extension cord to jump start my battery. IT DID NOT CHARGE AT ALL! I read the manual like 4x and did everything right. NO CHARGE AT ALL! Horrible products! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Schumacher products are very good. The covers on the alligator clamps are attached poorly, but this is easy to fix yourself. The storage hooks are not well designed well either, but I don't use them. I see past these minor short falls. Plastic parts that fail are here to stay. I use the charger, allot. Its compact and quiet, and I need the AGM mode for my OPTIMA Batteries. They are an investment and I treat them as such. I actually like the delayed boost/start feature, It will keep me from damaging the unit, with my impatience. I own an older Schumacher Charger, its last for years. Hope this one does as well. It goes to the track when I do!

Bought this unit about a year ago to charge batteries on outdoor equipment and occasional use with autos, choose it because it has a desulfation mode. Seems to work fine, and was able to charge a battery that had completely discharged over the winter that I did not have much hope for. The manual is fairly informative and seems to cover most situations; it would be helpful if there was info about deep-charge batteries, and if it included technical info about exactly how it charges at different stages of the recharge process.

To be fair, I bought this for long term battery maintenance. Even in trickle mode, it is very noisy compared to an older, less powerful Schmacher automotive charger I have. The worst part is that the voltages used are too high, which hurts the batteries. It quits charging at 14.5 volts, beyond the gassing voltage, so the electrolyte boils away. In the maintenance mode, it cycles from low to high voltage, which is OK. But this is not suitable for any long term use because of the voltages used.
