The instrument is plastic like and feels cheap. For a beginning student I suppose it's fine. For a long term instrument it is not. Very disappointed. I will continue to allow my child to learn on it but when they become more profecient, we will definately upgrade.
It's good for beginners. Great value. Arrived earlier than expected. Lots of accessories for the price!
I purchased this guitar to resume playing after a 30 year hiatus. This model is cheaper than the SD20 and SD30 because it doesn't have a spruce top and has no fancy inlay. Quality of construction is very good for this price range. The bridge on mine had a minor flaw where one of the pins goes in, but it didn't affect performance and was easy to fix, appearance-wise, with a little wood filler and some stain. The plastic saddle is adequate and like the strings is easy to upgrade later which I'd recommend. The neck adjustment is simple if you know what you're doing. If not, you can probably get a music store to do it for a very nominal fee if not free. The gig bag is serviceable; the tuner is a joke but there are many better ways to tune a guitar including some apps for your smart phone or just a pitch pipe or keyboard.
I did my research before buying this guitar and after seeing all the good reviews, decided to buy it. I have never been happier. I have always wanted to pick up acoustic guitar but never wanted to spend too much because I was unsure I would stick with it. This guitar is fabulous for the money. All of my guitar-playing friends who have Fenders and Martins say that it sounds great and that I got a heck of a deal. The guitar is fabulous but at this price you can't expect the other stuff to be top quality. The gig bag won't protect the guitar at all really but is just good for moving it from place to place. The tuner is very cheap plastic but that being said, it still does it's job. The picks are OK but are pretty hard for a beginner acoustic guitar player. I already wore one down so much in the first week that it had to be thrown away. Guitar came pre-strung and came with an extra set of strings. Chord chart is nice, and having a strap (no matter how cheap) on your guitar is actually really nice. Being able to stand and play or walk around and play is surprisingly awesome feeling. All in all, great guitar for the money. I am very happy with my purchase and I've been playing non-stop for the last 2 weeks, learning all of my favorite acoustic songs.
Silvertone may not be as commonly thought of as Gibson or Fender when it comes to great guitars, but this truly is a fabulous buy! I've had my guitar for over five months and I play it pretty much every day. I have yet to have any problems. It tunes great, sounds great, and looks great! Don't let the low price fool you-- it isn't just a cheap toy, it's a quality guitar that happens to be a bargain as well!
