This is an awesome changing pad for the price!! We are still using the original changing pad that we bought for our 2-year-old son, and it has been great!! We have used it 24/7 since he was born in May 2010 (he's not yet potty trained, but that's in in the works). It is a little "compressed and cracked", but when you are using a nice plush cover (we use Carter's Super Soft Dot Changing Pad Covers) over the top of it anyway, so it doesn't really matter... I would HIGHLY recommend this pad if you are looking for one on a budget that is a name brand like "Simmons".
Our baby girl is now 2 months old and has loved this changing pad since we brought her home. Over the last several weeks when we put her on it, she laughs and coos. Sometimes when she's fussy, we'll lay her on it and she calms down. It's definitely one of her "happy" places and she like being able to look around. In terms of functionality, it works great. We have the pad on top of an antique dresser with a wide, flat top. The non-skid bottom works very well and the two-sided contour does its job. The strap is easy to use and the baby doesn't mind it. We use an awesome changing pad cover from Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Summer-Infant-Plush-Pals-Changing-Pad-Cover-Frog/15407195) as well as multi-use, waterproof changing table pads from Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/KID-DING-Waterproof-Bassinet-Changing-Table-Multi-Use-Pads-8-Pad-Pack/4252628?findingMethod=rr#Item+Description). We use these multi-use pads A LOT. We are considering purchasing another one for the second level of our home.
Most of these are about the same quality. I bought this one online because I had a store credit. I felt the Babies R Us one after this one and found it to be much cushier/padded. I haven't used this yet. The thing I liked about this one is that the packaging said it was Greenguard certified. I liked that. Even though the baby will not be on the changing pad a long time (like a mattress), it's still nice to know it's better for him.
Awesome changing pad, it's nice how you can strap it down to anything; it's very secure & easy to clean, my only complaint is how expensive it is (I ended up having to buy 2 of them cuz I had twins, so it was kind of a gasp-moment when $50 went to just changing pads...) but overall it's worth it to have something with high enough contours that keep you from worrying your child might roll off the side and onto the floor.
The vinyl cover on this pad is thicker than others I've seen in stores. It has held up to almost two months (7 weeks) of use so far. The pad itself could be thicker, but I would not say it is too thin. The only downfalls are that there is a depression starting to form where my baby's head lays on it and the "quilting" traps accidents from baby. It wipes up easy enough with a diaper wipe, you just have to rub hard enough to get it out of the quilting cracks. Standard covers fit this pad, but I found it was easier to leave it off and put a burp cloth under my baby's head and torso if he doesn't have a shirt on. Otherwise, you end up washing a cloth cover all the time. The bottom is non-skid and works. I will buys this changing pad again if it wears out. (I purchased this one in June 2010.)
