I have been sewing off and on for the last 40 years. I have had several different Singer sewing machines. I have never had any problem with them. I used them until something broke and it was cheaper to replace. The Brilliance 6199 is the most I have paid for a Singer and it is the worst sewing machine I have ever had. Right from the start it has been am unpleasant experience using it. I knew there would be a learning curve when going to an electronic machine but, I have followed the directions in the manual for everything I have attempted to do. It jams up constantly. It doesn't like sewing thicker material. I just tried to sew a buttonhole following the directions in the manual and it jammed up. I have had it with this sewing machine. I will replace it with a cheaper model that I can still do all the same things on without the stress.
I am so diappointed after I started sewing with my brand new singer. It kept on skipping stiches. After the secound time I took it back to the agent I wise a never bought it. The agent keep on saying that I am using the wrone treat or the needle of the stretch fabric. At the shop every thing seems to be okay but back home working with my new Singer is a horrible experience. I am so dissipointed I don't know where to go with my after sales problem.
I was very excited to get this machine as I'd had a very basic brother machine previously. While it worked, it was a great little machine, but overall not worth what I paid for it considering I only got a little more than a years worth of use out of it. The bobbin gave me much difficulty that I never experienced with the brother. I don't think it was threading the bobbin evenly and I ended up tearing out a lot of jumbled up thread. The "automatic" threader stopped working after I had owned it for a mere 13 months! Which meant that I couldn't use my warranty. Then the needles started breaking. I now can't use the machine at all with all these problems and feel that it'd probably be cheaper to go and buy a new machine than waste another cent on this one. I was very disappointed to say the least!
I received my new machine as a gift from my daughter. The first couple of times I used the automatic threader, it worked, and then no more. It will not pick the thread thriough the hole...so old fashioned way will have to do. I was able to finish a blanket top with several of the decorative stitches, which I thought was wonderful. The stitching was even and the machine will not go fast enough to mess it up. However, when I attempeted a second throw for a grandchilds gift, the machine locked up. The error message was of no help and I'm a machine down. No reset buttons or any help on-line. Now my daughter is unhappy because I've had issues with her gift to me...Who was to know that what used to be a reliable sewing machine, "SINGER" has lost some of its magic. I'll go back to my old machine of 12 years and finish up my projects. :-(
I am experienced with sewing. Sewed mostly on a very basic Kenmore. Decided after 20 some years to step up. Hemmed one pair of pants and the sewing job was beautiful. Extremely pleased - started making a softside children's book and could not get to the machine to do a tight zig-zag stitch over the outside edge. Bobbin thread continued to knot up. Took bobbin out - cleaned the thread out - could not get the bobbin thread to work again. Just took the machine back.
