Solar pump not big enough for fountain even when basin full of water runs slow and water constantly drips down back of top bowl You have to disassemble the whole thing to clean it due to the unporportioned weight ratio of the basin and bowls. Lesson learned.
After ordering a 1st one that was broken, I had a no hassle return and quickly had another one in just a few weeks.. it is so beautiful when it is running. I bought a regular fountain pump to use indoors and everyone that comes into my home raves about it
This product shipped in a timely manner and arrived intact. The fountain itself is very nice. The solar pump just plain doesn't work. I think if you lived in the desert with direct sun you may be ok but in a normal setting, it's just way to weak. We had an electric pump from a previous fountain and switched it out and it's perfect. Love everything about it. On a side note, I am sure that Hayneedle would have made an accommodation for us if we had asked. My experience with them has been excellent. We had the fix on hand so I didn't ask. If you don't mind putting a little more into it with an different pump set it, then it's a great fountain.
Thank you Haymarket!! We loved this fountain so much, we immediately bought 2 more for the backyard garden. The Red Lava Fountain was 80% less expensive than the same fountain, same manufacturer, just different colors and patterns for the more expensive ones. So we ended up paying less for all 3 fountains than we would have for just one in a different color. They flow exactly like the advertised picture and the color is the same rich red color as shown. Very, very easy to put together -- took about 2 minutes. Once you have the water flowing -- DIRECT SUN -- slightly tilt or move the pitcher, each of the bowls, and the large bottom bowl to achieve a perfect flow. No dripping, no leaking. I put clear, colored rocks from the Dollar Tree, shells, and floating color changing battery powered mini lamps in each bowl. It gives the fountain more weight and stability and the look is elegant and perfect. For those that were critical in their reviews, I think they were 1) trying to bend the frame or had it backwards/upside down. The bowls do not fit inside the circles; they rest on them. 2) They did not tilt/adjust the bowls for the best water flow. 3) They did not have the solar unit in direct sun. I even bought 6V ac/dc adaptors for the winter months. Simply detach the connector to the solar unit and then reconnect it using the 6V ac/dc adaptor instead of the solar unit. Then you can use an electric outlet. I can switch back and forth depending on the weather. For the fountain in front, I opted to replace the motor and solar attachment with a more powerful submersible electric motor that also had color changing lights. I used the same tubing that came with the fountain and plugged it into the new motor. Then I plugged the new motor into a nearby electric outlet. Everything worked perfectly.
Do not waste your money on this horrible product. Pay a bit more and get something that actually works. I live in FL so we're not exactly starved for sun. However, if there's a cloud anywhere within 100 miles, the solar panel is so weak it will not pump at all. In full FL sun it will at best give you a weak drip. My fountain has never once performed with the water flow shown in the picture. The fountain is totally top-heavy so every time you clean the bottom bowl you have to take the whole thing apart or it falls over and the bowls break. If I had the packaging, I'd send this sucker right back.
