I just finished watching home movies from a USB stick that was plugged into this TV (accepts MPEG only) - picture was gorgeous! Has a PC hookup (so is Internet capable), plenty of HDMI inputs. The picture (esp HD) is simply the best I've seen. I will always buy Sony TVs because of this simple fact. After all, that's what you buy a TV for, right? I have mine hooked up to a sound system, so cannot evaluate the sound directly from the TV. I got A LOT of bang for my buck!!
I'll start out by saying this set is currently $748 in-store. With that out of the way... My wife and I debated on what set to pick up for several months to replace our beyond aging 51" Sony rear projection. We were leaning toward a Vizio set until I saw this one on sale for only $50 more. Having always had excellent luck with the quality & durability of Sony products I went for this one. The picture quality on normal settings is beautiful for the price. DirecTV HD programming, over the air HD, Blu-Ray and PS3 and Xbox 360 games all look phenomenal. Standard DVD, not quite so much. If you are watching standard DVD's on an older player, you will notice some graininess. However, if you own and use a upscaling DVD player, it's not too bad. This set embraces the HD era and anything less shows it's "age" so to speak. Reviews have talked about how the sound has to be turned up higher because the speakers are in the rear. This is true, but not an issue for me. I use a Sony 5.1 surround system which this set has helped simplify the connections for me as well. I have all of my components connected through HDMI cables, with a TOSLINK (fiber-optic) cable running to my surround receiver. The set is quite attractive and mounts perfectly to a wall-mount or rack-mount. Unlike some of the sets I have looked at, this set has the inputs off-center instead of in the center so the brackets don't interfere with making connections. The edging around the set is a glossy black, except the bar along the bottom which is gray. It's a subdued hue and looks quite attractive. Overall, my wife and I are both impressed with everything this set offers. Good job Sony.
I bought a Sony Bravia EX4 (46") 60 Hz, but a random vertical blue/purple 2 inch wide strip showed up on the screen regardless of the input 2 days after purchase. I returned it and got the Samsung 46" 60 Hz instead. The Samsung has a more thorough instruction manual and is loaded w/ far more features than the Sony. I do commend Walmart for allowing me to return the Sony (online purchase) at a local store w/ minimal hassle. I did find some reports online of this blue/purple strip issue on older (2007) Sony models >40".
We purchased this tv because my youngest destroyed our older one with a wii remote. Once we got it all set up, I actually like it a lot better. Not only because it was bigger and cost a lot cheaper. Sony is a really good choice and I can't be happier.
We purchased a Sony Bravia 46" TV for my mother Last Christmas (2009) and she has been very pleased with it and my wife and I liked it so much we bought us one this year. After watching my mother's TV, on and off for a year and now watching ours,we all are very satisfied. They both have a great picture and sound. The instructions on how to connect your accessories is very easy to read and understand.
