Spear Head Spade - Reinforced Fiberglass Gardening Shovel with Cushioned "D" Grip - Award Winning Shovel - Model SHFD2

I am a 70 year old woman with a bad shoulder, that decided to plant a Hosta Garden in an established garden, full of large bushes and one huge Maple Tree. I bought the Spear Head Spade to dig through the many roots from the tree and bushes. The spade slices through the soil and between the roots like butter, which enables me to cut the big roots with a lopper. I am now on my third flower bed with my trusty spade, happily digging and planting away. I certainly wouldnot have been able to enjoy all my planting and digging without this wonderful spade. I recommend this spade for everyone, especially for us old folks who love to get outside and plant and garden to our heart's content.

This Spear Head Spade is my new favorite garden tool! Finally, it's a spade that I can lift repeatedly without strain. It digs into impacted soil quickly and easily, and its pointed shape lets me pinpoint the area of digging more precisely than a garden fork or regular shovel (which I can't easily lift), so I don't destroy the roots of nearby plants. My 30-something son uses it to power through dirt like a machine. The handle is shorter than a shovel's, so it doesn't get in the way, for me or my 6-foot son. All in all, it's an excellent design and is built to last. Happy!

This is the best shovel I've found for getting through my rocky, clay soil with the least resistance. I also like that it is narrow enough that I can get into my perennial beds without too much disturbance.

This is a great garden tool. High quality. I have heavy black soil and the sharp blade cuts right into the ground easily. The narrow, spear head works wonderfully for moving plants in the perennial garden. Very easy to get in between plants and not cause damage to surrounding plants.

I bought this for the upcoming spring season when we are going to be digging up hard packed ground to plant new bushes to make it easier on our contractor - he will be the one to test it. We haven't used it as yet, so we are hoping it will be a help to us due to physical injuries that make it harder for us to do these types of jobs. Service from Gardener's Supply was excellent and the product is well made.
