Great little camera. Easy to mount and since it connects directly to battery, easy to install and run. I use it on multiple aircraft. I sometimes use a runner band taped to the fuselage as a tether so in case of crash, it stays attached and I don't have to hunt for it.
After getting the Inductrix FPV+ at Christmas, along with the Spektrum DVR Monitor and headset I wanted to try fixed wing FPV. A little velcro and I have a landing pad for the camera and battery on top of my UMX Timber. A ten minute test with a 1s150mAh left the battery with 3.95V left in the tank so I wasn't worried about a dead bat blinding me in flight. First flights were at a local indoor soccer field. Metal building. Much less interference with this cam/vtx than what I get with the Inductrix. Easily able to fly full laps around the soccer field a couple feet off the wall while standing in the goal at the end of the field. I also got a day to fly outside at my club field. No static lines there until I got to the far side of our 10 acre field. Couple blips of static warned me I was pushing the range, but I was able to turn and bring it back. This adds a whole new level to flying fun. Wouldn't recommend for a new pilot. You should be comfortable with take offs, landings, general flight of the plane, and KNOW where your switches are on your transmitter without looking before putting the headset on. Have a good pilot on a buddy box with you so they can bail you out if you get in trouble too.
My first experience with this camera was a purchase that included it with my Fat Shark goggles. I mounted it on my Inductrix and had a ball with it. That was until I drove it underneath one of my dining room chairs and sheared off the antenna. At $100.00 USD it wasn't worth replacing, but when it came up at $39,95 in the bargain bin I jumped on it. Back to FPV, without the chairs.
I have been flying quad copters for several years and decided that I wanted to try FPV flying. I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg just to see if I liked that style of flying. The Ultra Micro VA1100 FPV camera setup is perfect. It is small, self contained and can be stuck on just about any type aircraft turning it into a FPV flying machine. I used to have a 180QX but it was long gone so I bought another one and stuck the little Ultra Micro FPV camera setup right on top of the 180QX canopy. I think this is a great combination for flying close in FPV. The camera has plenty of video range for flying around in a gym or out in front of my house flying local neighborhood sorties. It works great with my Fat Shark goggles. Just plug in a single cell battery and turn on the goggles and you are ready to jump into the FPV flight experience.
I'm having the same issue that other people have mentioned. The camera worked fine at first, but after being in storage for the winter, there is now an out of focus blob in the middle of the camera. The blob is some glue that is in the middle of the ir filter on the inside of the filter on the lens. Horizon has said they will not replace the lens and that I need to buy a whole new camera as the lens is not offered as a separate product. I know a lot of people say their support is good, but that has not been my experience with this product. Does anyone know what size the lens is so that I can purchase a different brand lens to replace the defective Horizon one?
