SSD DRIVE 512GB 2.5G SATA3 PRO DISC PROD SPCL SOURCING SEE NOTES

I installed this 512GB SSD in my Mac mini to replace the original 300GB HDD, and my Mac is much more responsive, productive and faster. It's fun to compute again. I really love the design of this SSD, and the specifications.

I like the interface that you can utilize Samsung Magician directly from your desktop and configure and benchmark all through one application.

As a photographer, I purchased this wonderfully large and fast 840 Pro as a screaming replacement for the boot drive on my laptop and to launch/run computationally intensive apps like Photoshop. I hoped that by using a solid state drive, I could accelerate my workflow while ensuring great reliability in hardware. All worked well for about 4 months, after which the drive's boot sector became corrupted and unable to launch anything on the laptop. Two expert technicians identified the flaw in this configuration as originating in the hardware, itself. You should consider my experience as only a single data point, and I am in no position to criticize Samsung or this product for the quality of engineering or production. However, since my laptop is my digital darkroom, I cannot afford to experience primary hard drive failures. Chastened from the experience, I purchased a more conventional mechanical hard drive to serve as a main drive on my computer. Samsung was gracious enough to replace the failed SSD; but I have decided not to trust that replacement as an integral part of my photo processing. After stuffing it in a robust external enclosure, it became my biggest, fattest "thumb drive" for photo presentations and picture storage.

Like the performance of the drive. Getting it installed came with challenges. System was running RAID1, broke the raid set, made the system drive non-RAID before cloning, but the clone still was not good and resulted in a large number of Windows stop errors. After many attempts at fixes, finally did a fresh Windows install and all seems to be better. Would recommend doing a fresh Windows install in the first place with a RAID system. May not be an issue on a non-RAID system.

Pros: Less Load On Memory, Laptop Became Lighter, The Fastest I Have Ever, Laptop Cooler Now, Very Very FAST Cons: Only 512 Gb Other thoughts: This is the fastest SSD I have seen. Windows 7 boots in 20 seconds!! MS Office loads almost instantaneously. This device will relieve the memory load on your ram. Laptop is cooler and lighter too. Laptop Battery lasts longer now.
