Narrowly escaping a Cardassian attack, Tahna Los (Jeffrey Nordling), a member of the Bajoran Underground, the Khon-Ma, seeks asylum aboard Deep Space Nine. Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor) instantly recognizes him from her days as a freedom fighter and the two resume their friendship. Later, the Klingon Duras sisters arrive at the station and have a suspicious secret meeting with Tahna. Then Kira assists two more Khon-Ma members in their request for asylum. But as evidence of a conspiracy grows, Kira's aid to her old comrades casts doubt on her loyalty to the Federation. When Tahna confronts Kira with his true purpose - to enlist her help in destroying the wormhole - she must decide whether to betray Starfleet or her own people.
