Good wifi strength to use at home or on the go. I love the option of no monthly contract. If I chose not to have service...I don't have to buy additional data minutes for that month. It works well for me. Setup was rather easy too. Just follow the instructions on the guide sheet instead of online because the IP address I was told to use online did not work. Great buy for those who want their own personal wifi.
I am so glad I researched this item online before purchasing. I found a great blog that gave step by step instructions on how to set this up. Without that, it would have been a disaster as the instructions included were not nearly clear enough. The wifi does work in the middle of nowhere where our cabin is located, with this mobile hotspot. It seems to need recharging quite often, so we just leave it plugged in. It can be slow at certain times, but all in all, it was a good buy. Once you pay the $80 for the gadget itself, you just buy a data card for $15 or $25 depending on the amount of data you use and that is it. Way cheaper than what we pay at home in the cities. Because we are not the most tech-savvy people in the world, we first had to figure out how to connect one of our phones to a laptop long enough to get on the internet to find the Straight Talk website and get it going. That was a little frustrating, but like I said, once you get it going, it works fine!
Set up was easy for an old guy, and so far the coverage has been great. Mainly use it on the road in the midwest and so far reception has been adequate for what I need. Cornfields, Soybeans, gravel roads and still stay connected what more could I say.
I bought this and set it up on the 15th of July 2014. This hotspot setup up was just as simple as setting up a straighttalk phone. But don't be thinking that it'll replace your dsl service. This is a lot slower and you have to be careful on the data you buy. I used 2 gigs in 24 hours. I complained and they gave me another 2 gigs for free. But that only lasted a few more days. So then I bought a 5 gig and have been real careful about watching videos and playing games. I checked my balance this morning and I had used almost a gig of data. So, in summery, go to someplace that has free wifi if you plan on hitting it heavy. Best speed I got out of it was 1.9 mbps download and .67 mbps upload.
This product is ok if you use the web for email and light surfing. If you watch movies or TV via the web then this is not for you. It's easy to set up, takes only minutes, you refill your data/time via the web using your credit card. One major issues is when you run out of data to use, you have no access to the web to pay for more data. There also seems to be no way of getting an alert of when you are running low on data. Forget calling customer no-service, you are using the straight talk phone tree which is terrible, and when you finally get someone on the line, its hard to hear/understand them. The device seems to turn it self off after a few hours. The internet speed is not that great, but it serves it's purpose as email and slow surfing. It is cheap though, so you get what you pay for.
