Made quick work of breaking up the top 5 or 6 inches of dirt. My yard was full of buried bricks from initial construction, but the sun joe would either break through them or fling them out of the dirt. My only complaint is that after some time, the handles came off of the motor and i had to find a bigger screw to keep it from coming off again. Even with that, definitely worth the purchase. My yard looks better than ever now!
Product is powerful but I am not sure what it is doing. It took off the top of my grass but didn't turn over the dirt. I tried looking online for help with how to use it but could not find anything really good and explanatory.
I used this tiller on some ground that I partially dug up. It had some roots in it from some shrubs that I pulled out. It worked great, it even kicked out the small roots without bogging down. It worked better when I pulled the tiller backwards. When I did that the tiller dug down deep and the ground was chopped up real fine. It worked excellent and I am looking forward to use it next spring.
OK, so I have never used a tiller/cultivator before. I live in Florida the land of St. Augustine grass ( long tough runs of root system and river grass that goes deep and is matted. I can go about 20' before the tines are wrapped up in root runs. It takes about 20 minutes. Another 20 minutes to clean the tines to get started again. It would take me about two hours to do the same hard physical labor with a shovel and rake, pulling grass up while on my knees. Age 69 in fairly descent shape. It helps when the heat index isn't 110+. The machine is doing what I need it to do. I would buy another one.
I've only used this tiller for a few hours so I cannot speak of durability. Over the years I've owned two Mantis (gas) tillers. They are great machines and I decided to try something electric this time. The Sun Joe handles very similar to a Mantis and with equal or maybe a little more power. The ground I've tilled so far is challenging and this tiller runs through it with power to spare. Stringy weeds and roots tend to wind around the tines and need removing from time to time (same with a Mantis). The price is very affordable and I don't have to deal with fuel.
