I bought this 2 years ago for my son when he is sick. The first couple of times it worked fine, but after that it had leaked all over our hardwood floors. Since it happened in the middle of the night the area of the floor was literally ruined! I am throwing this out and just buying a vaporizer which provides more moisture. JUNK!
This humidifier is loud and makes gurgling noises like other reviews have stated. If you use the high setting the tank empties fairly quickly, but it seems as though the low setting doesn't do much to add humidity to the room. Also, mine collected this weird sediment and was hard to clean (could be my apartment or the machine), but it was annoying that I had to do hard scrub downs every time I used it. I used it everyday for about a month and then stopped using it because it was loud, annoying to clean and I didn't notice much of a difference from when it was on or off.
I use a humidifier every night in my bedroom and have for more than 10yrs as I live in a dry climate. I have tried pretty much every brand on the market, including multiple $200+ humidifiers. Hint: keep the receipt. Hot mist, cold mist, EVERY ONE broke or stopped working within 4 months. The best historically have been sunbeam models that you could remove & clean the heating element. Others like vics etc were barely able to make steam. I'd dump piles of salt in the pig to get it steaming and then they'd boil over. Real pain. Sunbeam stopped making the element cleanable without ripping the unit apart before this model, and despite the pain in the *rear* involved in that adventure, it still lasted longer than any other brand I've used. This new unit is by far the best engineered humidifier I have owned. Cleanup of scale is easier by far and longevity is fantastic. I have owned 2 of them for 6 months so far and both operate as well as day one. The heating element is round and coated with a non-stick surface making scale fall off for a while (eventually it sticks on but still comes off fairly easily). In terms of noise -- all hot mist units make noise, this one is quieter than most and not disturbing to me (a light sleeper) whatsoever. I did wake up the other night and hear a burbling thinking it was my son wetting the bed, only to find it was the humidifier. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night thinking I can hear a light rain -- again its the humidifier. Great product. I am stock piling a few just in case they stop making these as it seems the sunbeam models change every few years and I don't want to be stuck with other non-functional models if I can help it.
This is not the first Sunbeam humidifier I have bought but believe me it will be the last. This humidifier worked for 2 days and after that nothing. I would fill the tank and turn on the humidifier and after about 2 hours the refill light would turn on and the unit would turn off because it thought the tank was empty, even though the tank was completely full...it is a waste of money.
the water capacity is great - lasts quite awhile, and it's easy to clean - but the screw top lid doesn't close well - I need to spin it many times just to get it closed...
