Thyme & Table Stainless Steel Fine Grater & Zester

This microplane grater looks beautiful, but the packaging states it's NOT dishwasher safe and must be handwashed. The product description claims this item is top rack dishwasher safe. I've had a microplane brand zester for years and have always been able to throw it into the dishwasher. Bought this gold toned one for a second home. For a metal product to not be dishwasher safe tells me it's very low quality stainless steal. Be advised

This handy item is a Stainless Steel Fine Grater & Zester from the fine folks at Thyme & Table. I've been wanting for a while now to try out one of these grater/zesters, and this one seems the perfect choice! So far I've used it for grating hard cheeses, for zesting lemons & limes to add a great citrusy flavor .. for grating zucchini .. and for one of my favorite quick recipes, a carrot raisin salad. This tool is PERFECT for finely grating the carrots - just like I love them! What else do I love about this tool? That it's stainless steel .. that it's got a lovely, cushy easy-to grip handle .. and another plus is that there's a plastic 'sheath' that snaps on to cover the grating/zesting area so there'll be no skinned knuckles when I put my hand in the drawer to pull it out to use! The clean-up is simple too: I washed it in warm water before the 1st use, and, to preserve its elegant gold finish, I'm avoiding abrasive cleansers that might mar it. After each use, it's so quick to wash it by hand, dry, snap on the protective cover, and slip it back in the drawer. It's not an item to pop into the dishwasher, but that's a good thing because, like all sharp things, it needs to go back in the drawer and out of harm's way when not in use.

This stainless steel fine grater and zester is very long. The grate part is longer than a standard butter knife. This is very well made. It is very durable. The handle is sturdy and fits into my hand with no problem. The cover is excellent for storage. The main feature it does not have that it could have is to take the holds out of the holder so that the holder could be put on the bottom and when you grate herbs then they would be caught in the holder. But for now, you have to grate cheese, herbs or zest citrus in your bowl. This stainless steel fine grater and zester is a must have for all cooks and is an excellent product.

I cook a lot. I often have a need for finely grated ingredients like parmesan cheese and lemon and lime zest. This makes things far easier than using a large square grater and simpler to maneuver and get ingredients where you need them. The handle has a rubberized grip that doesn't slip out when your hand is wet. It's long enough that you can cover a lot of area on larger fruits or cheeses. Cleans off easily in running water or a swipe of a rag or sponge. It's great for garnishing with shredded chocolate and fudge. Really cool for making cocktails look cool as well. Works great on coconut! The gold color seems a bit much but the color hasn't faded and it isn't painted on so I'm not worried about it getting into my food. Comes with a snap on plastic cover for protection in storage and to prevent unwanted scrapes of your hands. I love this thing!

I got this with zesting jn mind, so when he used it to grate parmesan, I was aghast...then surprised, and THEN, really amazed! The parmesan came out PERFECTLY and clean-up is a snap! We just do a quick pre-brush under hot water, then run it though the D/W! Looks brand-spankin' new! And actually ZESTING...it does a fabulous job of that, too! The way the tool is shaped actually contains and guides the shreds where I want them and the protective sheeth keeps fingers from getting grated when the tool is not in use. Well-done Walmart!
