I am a college student and used this backpack nearly every day during the last semester. It has held up better than I anticipated, considering the relatively low price I paid for it. There is ample room inside for several books, in addition to the laptop compartment and smaller zippered compartments for miscellaneous stuff. There are also two side water bottle pockets. The feature which was most important to me was the rolling wheels, which saved a lot of strain on my back. It has hidden straps that you can use to carry it traditional-style as well, but I never used them. So far none of the zippers have broken and there are no holes. The only significant defect has been in the material of the top handle (not the metal handle, the cloth handle): fraying and stitching which pulled loose soon after using it. I think the handle will eventually rip apart if I use it to carry the loaded backpack very much, so I try to avoid carrying it that way but sometimes it is necessary to carry it by a handle or straps, such as when I am climbing stairs and cannot use the rollers. However, overall I have been pleased and have no regrets for this purchase. I have given it heavy use. I hope it will continue to hold up for another semester.
I researched many rolling backpacks for my college books and laptop. I wanted something that was affordable for a student like myself but was also versatile enough to be used for carry-on luggage if I needed it. I also wanted something that would safely carry my laptop computer in its neoprene case. This fit the bill. It has plenty of room for my books and notebooks as well as my computer and pens, pencils, etc.. Water bottle pockets on either side are useful. I use one for my eyeglass case for my "lab" glasses. The only thing I would change is that I would add another zipper tab (two way zipper) to the second pocket so that I wouldn't have to open the entire flap to access one small item. Less chance of having something fall out by accident that way. I have used this for almost a month and so far so good. The pull handle feels a little wobbly side to side but hasn't given me any trouble yet. Time will tell as to durability but it seems to made as well as backpacks that are twice the price. So I figure it is worth a chance.
Hi, After reviewing many expensive options, I found excellent recommendation for this bag at cheapism.com at link below. My son, is very happy with the bag. Diff compartment for putting extra jacket is very helpful. Handle has lock-in mechanism as well. http://www.cheapism.com/rolling-backpacks/83_travelers_club_metropolitan_rolling_backpack Thanks, Shruti
This bag is great. It is large and roomy. All my books and notebooks fit in it with ease. Plus laptop, calculators and pens. I even have a wee bit of room to spare. The side mesh pockets (of which there are two) are plenty big for water bottles. the medium sized of the front pockets has some internal pockets and pen holders (and still has loads of room after the wee pockets are full). For 30$ this is an awesome bag. If this one wears out before I am done at uni (I am tough on my bags), I won't hesitate to get another one of these.
This is a great bag for the price but I purchased this bag to replace my 20 inch carry on roller bag. Apparently these days, my 20' is way to big to fit in the overhead bins. I wanted to use this carry on rolling backpack as the replacement bag, but apparently, it has the same problem. When almost full, the backpack appears to bulk out when you fill it to capcity and unfortunately I am told the bag is too big to fit in the overhead. Might not even make it through as a carry on. So, I am now looking for that ideal bag. Any suggestions. The kind of bag that I am want needs to help me travel light and have enough room for a mini laptop and 1 pair of shoes. but yet small enough to squeeze underneath the seat in front of me in case there is no more room in the overhead compartment. Oh, and it has to be less than $50. Is there such a creature?
