Very easy to assemble by myself. Missing one bag of screws that appeared to have fallen out in transit. (ALWAYS count your parts before you start a project like this, right?) Everything fit together beautifully. Sturdy for the price but wouldn't want large kids climbing and jumping on it. Will add a coat of sealant for the winter as the finish is a bit thin in spots. Other tree hugging benches I found were at least twice the price so over all, very pleased with this cute bench. I'm sure that with care it will last a long time. Would recommend to anyone on a budget wanting to add a cute focal point to thier yard without spending four or five hundred dollars.
This bench is awesome! It's beautiful, steardy and you can't beat the price. It took a lot longer than the 1 hour some other reviewers stated, but it is so worth the effort. I do recommend putting the back on before the seat, though. (the instructions tell you to do the back last.) It helped a lot when it came time to line up all of the slats.
This bench was not hard to put together. My husband and I put it together in about two hours. It is very sturdy and very nice. I've had many, many compliments on how nice and well made it is. The other reviewer's were right too, it has to be level in order for everything to work properly, but that was no problem. We just used pavers on one side of the bench.
I received the tree bench and it took three hours to assemble. Having read there may be instruction issues I stayed flexible and waited till the end to tighten all screws. I must say that the tree bench was more than expected and was not that difficult to assemble. Make sure the ground feet are level before do the major build. At the end the screw holes on the back rests did not line up but with some twisting I got it to work. We liked it so much we bought a second one for the front yard.
The bottom line now that it's assembled is that this bench is exactly what I wanted and a steal for $80 (plus shipping). Plus the color is even better than in the photo. Here's the thing about assembly: It is frustrating and time consuming! My wife and I probably took more than the 2 or 3 hours some recent reviews have reported, and we did it over three successive evenings. I didn't have much problem with the pre-drilled holes other than that I couldn't see them. The trick there is to understand that the screws go in easily through the pre-drilled hole in the bench slat to wherever is "close enough" and it will be fine. I had no problem putting in the screws with a hand screwdriver. (And maybe they improved on the pre-drills in the latest batch; I was among those who waited for this to come back in stock.) The real problem is what the reviewer in on March 15 said, the directions are horrible! I just didn't get it. And understanding how things go together is the most important part. I put the first round of slats, the outside ones, in the wrong place and then the inside ones didn't fit so had to re-do the outside ones. And I didn't understand at first how the backrest bolts worked. The instructions didn't show very well where things are supposed to connect. We did it in the order the instructions said and I don't know if that was good or not. When we finished the bench was wobbly because the ground is uneven -- luckily the supports fell between tree roots -- but it seemed to settle in. It hasn't rained since we put this together but if it doesn't sink in securely I'll add something underneath. And like the other recent commenter said -- now my yard looks like a park! Joe P.S.: I have uploaded two photos. I wish I had thought to take photos while assembling it.
