The Fluke 287 is a data logging, True-RMS DMM with TrendCapture functionality. It measures all the things a good multimeter can measure, including volts, amps and temperature, and also features a big display that has a lot of information. Such as when using MIN/MAX the display has maximum, average, and minimum information together. I down load the data the 287 multimeter collects to a computer to review and document. I have recorded from minutes to over night to find a data glitch. The accuracy and resolution is very good. I was concerned that the multimeter takes 6 AA batteries. For that reason, I don't use the back light much. However, I have used the meter for 8 months and haven't had to replace the batteries. We have three 287 multimeters for testing equipment. The meter is well-built and sturdy with great input protection. Thus it is larger and heaver then other hand held multimeters.
I Bought this tester and was the better decision. Many features that help me to do my job in a correctly ans professional way.
This is a fantastic and rugged measurement tool. People sometimes complain about the "ghosting" of the display, but fail to recognize the important role the font plays in mitigating the difficulty in reading fast changing values in real-time. "Ghosting" can greatly hinder perception in a 7-segment display, but its important to remember that the reason is due to the large percentage of shared segments between most numbers in a 7-segment display. The font used in the 287/289 DMMs gives each number a very unique shape which can be read very easily even during rapid changes. The only downside to this meter are the tiny detents used to secure the stand in place. These detents wear relatively quickly and the stand deploys randomly from time to time which can make it a little difficult to maneuver it in and out of snug cases. It is ultimately a marvelous tool.
Great meter and espically useful is the frequency measurement when working with wind and soil moisture probes. However the ir3000 FC is a grave disapointment. Requiring a login and internet connection makes it completely worthless to me.
I love all of my fluke meters... I will have to admit I don't use this meter anywhere close to its limits... But I do use the recording feature often... I can find pesky fading voltages that usually check fine.
