The Victor Sonic PestChaser is an interesting product because its effectiveness is not immediately clear. You can easily gauge the success of a traditional mouse trap by whether there is blood splatter from catching a mouse attempting to nibble at the peanut butter bait. With the PestChaster, it is hard to distinguish between it doings it job and keeping the mice away or the mice deciding to torment a different household instead. We had an issue with mice roaming our walls and keeping us up with their clawing noises at night. We placed the pest chaser in the corner of the room and noticed that the noise stopped within a couple of days. The chase has two large speakers that emit high frequency sounds that are supposed to keep the rodents away. I wish there was a way to turn off the power light. The cable was long enough to give me options on where to place it in the room. The instructions recommend either a corner or against the wall. I want to eventually move it to the garage to preemptively keep the mice from hanging out there. It is not designed for covering a large open area though.
I have had this pest chaser for a couple weeks. I have it plugged in in my garage. Installation was easy. Just find a location near an outlet. The box says the unit will cover an area about the size of a garage or basement. Basically one unit will cover one room. I have used other brands previously in another residence, so I am anxious to see if this works better than those did. Since I installed this, I havent seen any evidence of mice in my garage, but time will tell with changing temperatures outside. I am also anxious to see the life span of this unit.
So far the Sonic pest chaser is working for us. We tend to get a good number of field mice from time to time due to being close to the open space and water. I placed it in the garage just be sure that the sound waves are not blocked by anything solid. It must have a clear line of sight to the areas you want protected. It has a 6 foot cord so that is very helpful. These have NO effect on cats, dogs, or people. So you don't have to worry about those potential issues. We love how effective it is and will be purchasing more.
Victor Heavy-Duty Sonic PestChaser is ready to use, right out of the packaging. Just plug it in (lower socket) and you are done. The high frequency (non repetitive) ultrasound keeps rodents away. I live in the country, so mice have been known to enter our garage when the door is opened, so that is where I chose to use it. The Victor Heavy-Duty Sonic PestChaser is compact and shaped to fit into a corner. I haven't seen any mice since using the Victor Heavy-Duty Sonic PestChaser. Please note: It isn't suggested for use near gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs etc. .
I have only been in my house for 3 months, and the lot is heavily wooded. I assume that rats and rodents would be lurking in the outside areas. This device is for the inside areas, so I placed it in the laundry room where rodents could possibly gain entry. So far I have found no evidence of rodents such as droppings. I am hoping that the high pitched sound that neither my dogs nor I can hear will do the trick. Time will tell, but I welcome the idea of using something that is non-lethal to kids and pets in order to discourage rodents from entering my house.
