Buy this if you love damp, mildew smelling clothes after 2 hours of "drying"
poorly designed lint filter. Condenser clogs easily. Condenser is now clogged with no way to clean without dissembling the entire dryer. Whirlpool will not address this issue.
This is the worst dryer I have ever had in my life. The design is totally faulty and it should be recalled for it by the manufacture. The lint gets into the machine and clogs up the unit. The metal filter in the front cannot be removed and so we had to cut the metal in order for us to access the clogged up unit. With a soft toothbrush we had to clean out thick layers of lint. Because the machine accumulates lint everywhere (and we clean the filters after every time we use it), it takes hours for anything to dry. Horrible machine!
I bought this dryer for my allergies as it is the only large heat pump dryer around that can fit comforters, blankets and rugs that I need to wash regularly. I will never buy from Whirlpool again after this experience. They don't stand behind their products. They also avoid specifying in the manual exactly how cleaning the lint accumulation on the coils needs to be done, just that it should be done every 2 years. If they did, NO ONE WOULD BUY THIS DRYER. The only way to do this is for the serviceperson to disassemble the ENTIRE dryer to access this area. Who on earth would buy a dryer that has to be disassembled top to bottom routinely? This introduces opportunity for more problems each time if it's not put back together properly and for disconnecting and reconnecting pieces continuously. All the other reviews are SPOT ON about the design flaw with the filters not being airtight and causing lint accumulation on the coils. Vacuuming religiously helps but doesn't stop it. This lint eventually gets mildewy due to condensation so clothes smell after a cycle. After 3 years I finally had a serviceperson come to clean the disgusting mildewy mat of lint off the coils at the front and all across the machine by disassembling the ENTIRE machine. I have been running it this week and already am concerned it wasn't put back together properly as the moisture sensor isn't working well now. One load was bone dry yet it said it was damp and still had 46 mins to go. Clothes seem to be getting stuck on top of the primary lint trap too and blocking air flow. Unbelievable that I spent all this money for such a poorly designed dryer that I likely will have to replace sooner than later. And it's still being sold. I will also never trust our appliance store either after this experience. I reached out to them and they said they don't service, they only fix problems so it was up to me to contact Whirlpool. Whirlpool did nothing except say read the manual and that they would note down this issue. Clearly they don't care if it's still being sold despite all our reviews mentioning the same issue. I had to organize and pay for the three hundred and fifty dollar service call myself.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] All in all the concept is great. Unfortunately we had a board die within the first 12 months warranty issues were rough at the beginning, but smooth and out through the transition item is repaired up and running fingers crossed.
