I am able to quickly open this safe with a simple small paper clip by inserting it fully into the key lock and pulling it back slightly while turning it counter-clockwise. This is a common way to open most cheap key locks like this one has. Also, the front cover around the keypad is cheap plastic that can be easily cut open with a knife or screw driver, exposing the solenoid mechanism that locks the safe, allowing someone to easily open the safe. Other than that, the safe is well-constructed and will serve my purpose of keeping firearms locked up when we have company or children here.
My main number one reason for purchasing this safe was so I wouldn't ever have to worry about my children getting a hold of one of my guns. It was a constant worry because I had them up in the closet but it's only a matter of time before one of them finds a way to climb up there. I got tired of worrying myself to death for their safety. This is a very solid, heavy duty little safe which fits perfectly and easily bolted in my nightstand drawer next to my bed. I can enter up to an 8 digit code that can easily be changed or reprogrammed in seconds if need be. I can enter my code and unlock the safe and have it opened in approximately 3-5 seconds. There is a knob to the left of the keypad that only needs to be turned a quarter turn to release the door. I found the quickest way to open it is to enter my code and then just flick the knob to the left with ease and lift the door and have my loaded gun in 5 seconds flat!! This is awesome and gives me piece of mind that my family will be safe in more ways than one. If you enter the code and do not turn the knob to release the locks, in about 4-5 seconds you will have to re-enter the code which is great because if you get side tracked you don't have to worry if it has been left unlocked. The safe comes with 4 AA batteries that are supposed to last up to a year but I've been practicing a lot so I probably cut the battery life in half already lol. The safe also comes with 2 keys in case the batteries die and you need access. I keep these in another safe. Inside the safe there is plenty of room for 2-3 full size pistols and a revolver, extra clips and my extra 12 gage shells and a small mag light. There is a cheap foam lining on the bottom that slides around a bit so I just replaced it with a rubberized drawer liner cut to fit. I used a light color so I can easily see what I have an there. I plan on buying a few more for around the house and one for the trunk of my car. I think 50 bucks is a very small price to pay for peace of mind and the ability to be up an armed in seconds to defend your family if need be. Five Stars all the way. I would Highly recommend this safe! T
works great, very secure. the mounting bolts that come with it are a joke, but so is the idea of keeping a safe in a drawer... i had to felt the inside, and lag it to the floor (it won't work well on a wall). the functionality is great, especially given the cost.
Sturdy and well built, easy to program in key pad ombination. Is Winchester brand made by Stack-On, which means Winchester name costs $10 more than identical Stack-On safe. For sentimental reasons, I wish Winchester was engraved or painted somewhere on outside of safe. Electronic keypad works great now. Hope it doesn't act up in future. Will update review if it does.
Good safe for the price. Like that you can disable the "beep."
