I like the boot . Sturdy and good for cold weather. Although the top of the boot , outside of the laces where it meets the high ankle is very tough on the leg . It hurt a lot to where. And took a while to break in .I use thermals and high socks to prevent cutting into my leg.
Perfect for my uses and Wolverine generally last me a years worth of mechanic work with the grease and oil. I've dialed my fit in with Wolverine boots so it's pretty easy to order. I don't much like the greyish part of the sole and wish it was black or whatever, but not a dealbreaker. The 400 grams of insulation is good until around 0 degrees. After that it's time for some pac boots.
I was concerned when I first tried on these boots. The left boot was fantastic right out of the box. The right boot rubbed me at the bottom of the tongue. After comparing the two boots, I discovered that the right boot had a slight protrusion that the left boot didn't have. Fortunately, I sucked it up and gave them a chance. After a few wears, the bump softened and is as comfortable as the left boot. The left boot's lower eyelet (second from the top) has bent outwards, but I can fix it with pliers. If not, the eyelet is still usable.
I have owned 3 pair of the low cut Raiders. I love them. The 6" lower section and insole feel and fit just as comfortably as the low cut. However, the upper padded section rub my ankles to where I have to limit my time in them. I travel extensively for the Dept. of Defense. I wear the low cut Raiders for long hours in demanding environments. I do not know if the 6" will fit the bill. Please bring back the low cut.
Im really enjoying the insulation on these boots. I got them just before the deep freeze arrived. Helped a lot in working outside. I got half a size up to wear thicker or heated socks if necessary. Havent needed heated socks yet, so been doing thicker socks and thinner aocks together. I sweat in these if i am moving around and working if the temp is above 40 ish degrees. The build quality on these is good, should last me several years of part time use
