I have been using a blood pressure monitor for more than 25 years. I was a little disappointed when I opened this iHealth wireless blood pressure monitor, because it requires the use of an iPad, iPhone or iPod. The only Apple product I have is a Shuttle. Fortunately my wife has an iPad, and so I tried out the monitor with my wife's iPad. First, I charged up the monitor with the USB cable provided. I have an adapter that can take the USB plug. Charging was done in less than one hour. I then downloaded the appt into the iPad. When I turned on the monitor, the appt instantly recognized the monitor. From the touch screen of the iPad, I controlled the monitor to take the measurements. The operation was very smooth. The cuff was very comfortable, and was not as tight as my old manual one. I took several readings, and the values were pretty consistent. The values were also very close to what I got with the monitor I currently used. So I would say this monitor is very accurate. The instruction manual is also very clear. I would recommend it to all my friends who have an iPad, iPhone or iPod.
The iHealth BP5 blood pressure monitoring device seems to have a pretty good design with lightweight and durable materials. After leaving the device plugged into my computer to fully charge using the packaged USB cable, I powered it up and was able to pair it with my Fire Phone (Android) without any trouble. I then downloaded the app iHealth Vitals app from the Google Play store, logged in with my iHealth account, and the app was able to sync with the device. The device has labels clearly identifying which direction you need to slide it onto your arm which I felt was a good design decision. After getting the device properly strapped to my arm, all I had to do was click the large 'START' button in the iHealth app and the device started humming and I could feel it applying pressure to my arm just like at the doctors. When it was finished, it displayd the results on my phone in the app and gave me the option to add context or a comment to the measurement so that when reviewing the data at a later time, I had insight into the reading. Overall I think this is a pretty great device and I look forward to more like it from iHealth.
I obtained the iHealth Lab Wireless Arm Blood Pressure Monitor through the WalMart Spark review program. This itemcan be used with android based products as well as Apple products. My husband has high blood pressure every time he sees a physician but doesn't think he needs to do anything about it. This was the perfect way to take his blood pressure on a daily basis and keep a graph on his phone. The instructions for the iHealth Lab Wireless Arm Blood Pressure Monitor seem more confusing than they need to be. Simply download the application, set up your account and charge the blood pressure cuff. I would suggest charging it for at least 4+ hours the first time. Once it was set up, all I had to do is put the cuff on my husbands arm, turn on Bluetooth on the phone and press start on the phone. The blood pressure cuff then pumps up and takes the reading. The reading is displayed and charted on the phone. You can also use the cuff without having Bluetooth on. The reading would automatically go to the phone when you pair them the next time. I have a small build (5'4" 125 lbs) so I have trouble getting the cuff tight enough on me. My husband has a very large build (5'8" 270 lbs) but the cuff still fits his arm. I am very happy with this product. This is an excellent buy for the money. I'm hoping to get years of use from the iHealth Lab Wireless Arm Blood Pressure Monitor!
When I ordered this I didn't realize that it had to be used with a cell phone. I spent at least 2 full hours trying to get it to work. I finally called the help line and was told that “it does not work with all android phones”. He didn't offer to go through the process with me. I kept trying and found that their instructions were poor. Eventually I got the phone and machine to “pair” together. Once that happened I spent a good amount of time waiting for the machine to respond. I was determined to get it to work. I am used to computers so I figured that I will get it eventually. When it finally took a BP reading it was way low. I put it on my husband and the same thing happened, way low reading. We found that if you get it to work and try for another reading it just won't respond. For the price, you can get 4-5 of the regular BP monitors that do work. When I called customer service again their answer was that “maybe you need to buy a different size cuff”. In a few words, ‘undependable and inconvenient'.
The day I received this monitor I tried it on but it is a little small for me. Checked the Walmart site to see if I could purchase a larger cuff. Could not find any listed so I called the company in California. Spoke to a very nice man who was a little confused when I told him my story. He asked if he could put me on hold so he could talk to his manager. After a few minutes he came back and told me that the manager said they would send me a larger cuff at no charge. I have not received the new cuff but coming from California it could take up to 2 weeks. They didn't say how they were shipping. I think that this company must be A-1 for their customer service. It would make me want to purchase their products if they stand behind them in this manner. Because I have been waiting for the new cuff I am unable to give a complete review at this time. I did give the product 4 stars based upon the packaging, looks, and design of the product. Also, I considered the helpfulness of the manufacturer. That being said, I did receive a wrist monitor from the Sparks program which I intend to use for travel. You can see my review under the wireless wrist monitor.
