HCG is released when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of your uterus — when pregnancy begins. If your pregnancy test results are positive, it means you're pregnant. If they’re negative, it means you’re not pregnant. Pregnancy tests are most accurate when you take them after you’ve already missed your period. The most accurate tests will detect as little as 25 MIU/mL of HCG. Some tests will be as high as 100 MIU/mL of HCG. A lower detection amount will provide an earlier and more accurate detection of the HCG hormones. The color intensity of the test bands may vary since different stages of pregnancy have different levels of the HCG hormone. INVALID: No visible band at all, or there is a visible band only in the test region and not in the control region. Repeat with a new test kit. Additional Information: Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the developing placenta shortly after fertilization.
