I was surprised that the pad is not pillow-like as the photo seems to show. It's a flat, plastic-covered heating element, like a standard heating pad, with a somewhat thin fleece cover which has a flap for inserting your hands. There is also just an on/off switch; no temperature choices. I like it and it meets my needs.
