I checked pricing with other stores and Walmart had the best price - I used ship to site and had my product very quickly.

I tested some old pottery for cooking and found one had lead and the other didn't. This test worked pretty well. I would buy it again if I ever need to.

Reliable Kit if Using Quick Method

This is a reliable method if using the quick method. The leach method did not work. I had some very old 30s dishes and other bowls and bakeware of different brands. The quick method showed lead on some pieces both inside and out, and other pieces, the inside of the dish showed no lead, while the outside of the dish showed lead positively. The leach method showed all of the dishes and bakeware to be fine. Also, make sure and clean your dishes per instructions before testing! I would recommend this test kit but only using quick method. The kit contains slightly more testing fluid to test a few more extra pieces but you will need your own swabs on hand. The smell seems very toxic so keep that in mind as well. The directions say to test in a ventilated area.

Well I think it worked. We tested an old chair because it had paint flaking off. The directions were only slightly confusing but it seemed to give good results.

Easy to use and works well but caution is needed preparing samples where multiple layers of paint are involved. I tested the garage door on my 1959 house expecting to find lead paint and I did. I then wondered whether the door frame also had lead paint. I first tried scraping the surface with a knife and the test proved negative. Not quite believing it I managed to pull off some large chips of flaking paint and broke them into smaller and smaller pieces thus exposing the edges of multiple paint layers. That time the test showed positive for lead. While not mentioned in the instructions it's necessary to cut the cotton swabs provided in half to do the test. The swab is to be inserted into the test solution and then into a small plastic test tube. The test tube is too small for a full length swab. Cutting them in half also gives you double the number of test swabs. But you'll use up all the swabs before the test solution is gone. Just buy more cotton swabs. The type supplied have a plastic stick, not paper or wood.

Inconclusive results?

There are two ways to test for lead with this kit--quantitatively (yes or no) and qualitatively (how much). I did the quick qualitative test and noticed that the applicator tip turned all dingy, which could mean the presence of lead or it could mean that the dish I was testing wasn't 100% clean, and it's the type of dish that's really hard to get all the food particles off of. So, I thought there must have been lead, but then I did the qualitative test, which you have to wait hours to get the results for, and that test was negative. Overall, it was a good purchase, I just wish they could make the test swab change more obvious colors to indicate the presence of lead (e.g. red, green) instead of something that could just be a slightly dirty dish (like gray, black, and brown).

Works great, needs lead sample

After lots of searching for how to test for lead in RED paint (thanks for nothing, 3M), I found this product that uses a different chemical. The reviews had me wary, but I decided to try it. It worked great. There is plenty of the testing agent to do more than four tests. I followed the directions exactly. The reason this review is 4 stars instead of 5 is that there's not some sort of lead sample included to make sure the testing agent works. Good thing I had some lead solder to try it on. Sure enough, the swab came up black. Not everybody has something lead lying around, though (which I'm pretty sure is the point of the test). Including a lead sample would make this a 5-start product.
