I bought 2 of these safes. They are good quality for what they are intended for. Would not stop professional thief from breaking into them but probably would stop local nutcase from getting in. Easiest way to defeat is through the back, but they would have to either cut the safe out of the wall or break into the wall from the back side. Mine are hidden behind pictures, but they also recommend inside a closet.

No wall safe is going to stop a determined burglar, however, this unit has a heavy protective door with double bolts that should serve as a strong deterrent. The instructions required some presumption (6 pre-drilled installation holes are also the shelf adjustment guides). If you have the courage to cut a hole in your wall, the rest is easy. This unit was purchased for $40.00 less than the next closest seller and came with free delivery allowing 4-6 weeks. It arrived in 4 days.

Nice heavy gauge product.Install was about an hour and a half with clean up.We did have to put a 1x4 on the non hinge side against the stud in the wall so the left outside face screws had something other than Sheetrock to bite into. Should be a way to turn off sound when you push buttons.I went in and unsoldered it no beeps now for the bad guy! Could have had better screws, threw theirs away! Overall a very good product that should work for years.

I don't know about you but crime seems to have gone up in our neck of the world. That being said we added an alarm system. Then we started to worry that a quick smash and grab type would take away the Mrs'. lifetime of memories --jewelry -- without needing more than 30 seconds in and out. We were making it so convenient keeping it all in a box on the dresser. Alarm or not, we wanted to slow them down if we got hit. That is where this item comes in. Sure a determined burglar will simply grab a crowbar, maybe a sawzall, or something similar and go to town on the wall and out the door they go with the safe. But that will take them a few more minutes than just kicking in the door and grabbing the jewelry. (we don't have anything fantastic here--just regular stuff you can't replace). I consider myself an average handyman and the install went ok. It took me 2-3 hours though. Like all jobs I think are going to take 30 minutes, they eventually all require 2-3 trips to home depot and a walk to the garage a thousand times. In my case the location had some electrical wires in the wall and some other hidden previous handyman gems that I won't go into (why always me!). The instructions state you will have a 'few inches' between the left hand side of the safe and the stud and that is ok as the screws they give you will be just fine. The main thing was to get the screws into the right hand side securely and flush as it has the opening door to support. Sure, 16 inch on center studs according to the instructions make it look like this safe will fit snugly between two studs just fine. In my case I had 3 inches of air between the safe and the stud on the left. You will need to factor in a scrap piece of wood you will have to put on the left stud. I used a scrap piece I cut to 22" long and it was 1.5 inches deep attached to the stud with some drywall screws I had on hand. The screws they give you with this safe are not long enough for the left hand side in most cases from what I read on other sites too. So, factor in going to home depot and get yourself some long 1/4 inch lag screws (4 inches long at least along with some wood if you need it). Using smaller lag screws that are long enough will reach through the extra wood you put in there and make it even harder to rip this hunk of metal out of the wall. My studs were 16 inches on center but I had way more space than their screws could work with. Again, a pro or determined thief can break this item out of the wall with time and tools but for your average punk looking for a quick score this will slow them down if not make them head out altogether. Its just another layer of security--not perfect. I was able to extend this safe about 3 inches total measuring where the door closes to as deep as I could make it. This was just enough to cram in all the stuff my wife didn't want to disappear in a heartbeat. Finally, when you order from Sams it says it will ship via freight carrier and mentioned something taking up to 4 weeks. We gave it a few days and it shipped about 3-4 days after we ordered and arrived in about 7 days total. It was delivered on a Saturday via fed-ex ground. One last thing, it is a bit heavy and you may need some assistance getting it into the wall. My cut was a little tight and I had to put it up and down a few times as I adjusted the drywall opening (I wanted it to be as tight as I could make it so I didn't have to make another Home Depot trip for spackle and paint). If you have a so-so back you will need some help. The last thing we are going to do is figure out how to hide it behind a picture. Sure that is cliche but my main goal is to not let it be obvious we have a wall safe whenever any workers were to come into my house. I don't like strangers over giving me a quote for services and taking note I have a safe. That just makes them want to find out what is in it. Boy will they be disappointed. All that work...

Safe arrived in timely fashion but after installing found the locking mechanism was broken. After you "close" the unit the locking deadbolts are to short to secure it properly allowing you to jimmy it open. Customer service is less than helpfull (at Honeywell)requiring us to uninstall it, ship back at OUR cost and wait for a replacemnt. Other than that I agree with others. Keypad seems easy to program but safe walls are thin and easily compromised. Use it to keep kids out but anyone else can get in without much effort.

Quality leaves something to be desired, however, it will do the job. Plastic knob cover for emergency key entry was broken and I have to call the manufacturer for replacement, an annoyance. Delivery from Walmart was prompt.

There is a real problem with this product. The first one came damaged and we had to go to the trouble of returning it to the store. Then the 2nd one also came damaged. This is extremely disappointing as we now have a hole in our wall for an item that neither Sams or First Alert can manage to safely ship!

I ordered this item and upon arrival it did not open with the combination or emergency key backup. I called the manufacturer and was told that it may have been a defect from shipping. The company explained to me that it sounded as though a/the soleniod was defective and to return it to the store. My concern was/is that if I decided to purchase this item and once it's mounted if the solenoid was to fail, what then? There were no fail safe way to opening to this unit if this was to happen again.

DO NOT BUY THIS SAFE. THE LOCK WILL NOT LOCK!!! To open the safe without using a code, pushing "in" on the handle and then pulling hard on the handle with disengages the locking mechanism and the Door will open without any codes. Great safe!!!!
