The pet door was exactly what I was needing. I have two dogs and I find that I'm taking them out several times a day. The pet door was easy to install and actually didn't take up as much room on the door as I thought it would. Both of my dogs went in and out very easily. The color of the product matched perfectly next to my sliding door and I feel like it is very secure. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] With three dogs, two being under a year old, it was very tedious when each have to go out - and they are never on the same schedule. We had a PetSafe door for our cats, so why not give the doggie door a try! The installation was very easy - which was unexpected. We had the door opened and installed within the hour. It took the dogs a little getting used to, but that also went very smooth (once treats were used for training). Now the dogs go in and out freely with no issues. We were very impressed at how sturdy the door was when our lab puppy dashes through it. Plus, it comes with a solid door with a pin lock when we do not want them to go out. I would highly recommend!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have a 3 season room that we hardly use but it's always closed with our sliding glass door to keep the heating/cooling costs down. This pet door worked perfectly so we can put our cat litter box out there instead of in the laundry room (less stinky!). The setup of the door couldn't have been easier. We had it all done in about 30 minutes. The top of the door is spring loaded so it will fit anywhere from 76 13/16” to 81” tall door frames. It came with everything we needed for a full installation including hardware, weather stripping, etc. The awesome thing about the setup is you have the option to hard mount it using screws to lock it in place but you don't have to. We just fit it in our sliding glass door frame and it works great with no drilling! Our cat has no problem pushing open the magnetic flap. We don't use it but the door also came with a solid metal piece that slides into place to block the flap as a security measure. I like this sliding pet door so much that I plan on purchasing Petsafes vinyl sliding pet door to let my dogs go out onto the deck on their own. Petsafe makes both aluminum and vinyl pet doors so they have you covered either way. Couldn't be happier with our new pet door!
I LOVE this Pet Door! We have 4 cats, and while they are not outdoor cats, they still get to go outside for about 2 hours each day--confined to the back yard. While they are out, I want to close the door, but I liked the idea of them being able to run into the house if they encounter something unexpected outside. This door definitely fits the bill! It's like an insert for a patio door. It's meant to be installed and affixed to the patio door, but we don't do that. Instead, when the cats go outside we just open the patio door, insert this into the opening and let the kitties run in and out as they please, and when it's time for them to come in, we remove the insert. It works great! The cats had a time trying to decide whether or not to come through the opening but they finally decided it was okay. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
When I got the sliding pet door I was skeptical of it b/c we had one before and my dogs did not enjoy our previous one. But the pet safe sliding glass door is really helping my family enjoy the outside with out waiting on me to take them out! It is very easy to install 10-15 mins max. It is very well built. I was very weary of being a doorman for my 4 Pugs. It was easier to put together and install than I thought. All 4 Pugs figured out the new sliding Pet door in just under 8 minutes. I tried a cheaper sliding glass pet door and was not happy with the quality. This one is very sturdy and has solved my problem. The Pug Posse is happy and so am I. I bought this for a small dog and the cats to be able to go in and out as needed. It works very well for that and my animals learned how to use it pretty quick. The directions are clear and the quality of the product is nice and solid. It could use a little better packaging as the top panel got slightly misadjusted in shipping. Easy fix by loosening a couple screws and adjusting it, just something to keep in mind. Overall I like it and it performs as expected and feels like it will prove to be durable. The sliding glass pet door is a pretty cool product for the person that wants a dog door and is willing to give up some “aesthetic” aspects of a sliding glass door. The positives: 1) easy and fast to assemble and install (about a 40 minute job), 2) a well made, good looking panel with double pane insulated glass, 3) the dog door works as it should and our dogs used it immediately with little training required, 4) when installed with the supplied screws, the panel will provide the same level of security as a standard sliding glass door. The negatives: 1) once the panel is installed you permanently lose approximately 1 foot (the width of the dog door) of the door opening to go in and out of the sliding glass door, 2) visually, the view out of your sliding glass door changes from 2 large panels of glass to 4 narrow panes, 3) if the color of your door is not white you end up with two door frame colors, 4) once the dog door is screwed in place, half of each glass pane is no longer able to be cleaned without removing the dog door (in my right to left opening configuration, the “outside facing/right half of the slider”, and the “inside facing/left half of the stationary panel” can not be cleaned), 5) a minor detail, the sliding plastic door that allows you to block the dog door does not latch and stay in place when opened; it has to be removed and stored somewhere off of the door. Overall, I would use this dog door if I did not use this sliding door frequently (the narrower opening is a problem for going to and from my deck), and the visual aesthetics were not a concern (the view out of the door is a valued feature of my dining area and the added frame is unwanted). We've been using PetSafe's sliding glass pet doors for years and we would never want do without one! The dogs can easily get in and out anytime they need to. This sliding glass pet door is nice because it's more compact for delivery and the box is not as awkward, however it seems as though there's now just another place for air and water to come through. With this version of the pet door the glass is not one piece and I personally don't think it looks as nice in the sliding door having the metal right in the middle. For the install we always add three times more weather stripping than what they give us. This dog door does not seem to be as sturdy as their other ones. I hope they don't discontinue the other door they have carried for years. The dogs love it either way! I only hope it will last through the winds, rain and snow that's headed this way. I just installed this into a new house. I do like that this model comes in two pieces because it is much easier to transport and move a smaller box than a really tall box. I feel like there was less chance of it breaking in shipping. It was very simple to attach the two pieces together. I did not permanently install the door, meaning I did not drill and attach it to the sliding glass door frame. I put it in and use a security bar to keep the sliding glass door locked shut. The door looks very nice and I like the locking panel you can use to keep the dogs inside, if needed. The only drawback for me was the manual. I felt the steps could have been a little clearer and the diagrams could have been more extensive. The pictures of the screws all looked the same and it wasn't necessarily simple to tell which screws went to which step. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
