These are great not only for our camping trips, but also to keep on hand in your daily pantry. While I wouldn't recommend them in something like a fresh salad-they re-hydrate very well for items that need to be cooked (spaghetti, goulashes, etc). NOW...if ALL the Walmart's would carry the Keystone canned meats-I'd REALLY be a happy camper!
I have used Augason Farms Dehydrated Peppers, Stew Vegetables, Butter, and Banana Chips so of course when I needed Dehydrated Mushrooms I looked. I also needed lower sodium without the expense of fresh mushrooms and it was suggested I look into dehydrated. I opened the can yesterday and threw in 1/2 cup with my simmering chicken and I am pleased although I believe they should have simmered longer - next time I plan ahead and allow simmering for 30 minutes. My only complaint is the price jumps all over the place. It was $17.03 the day I bought them and the next morning $16 and the next day $14.90 - then it started going up again and it has been doing this all week; the price just keeps going up and down!! I have never seen that happen @Walmarts Online before but it put me on alert to watch the prices. Still happy with the Augason Farms products - so far all of them!
Bought this to add to "dry soup" mixes in a jar. Awesome product. I do chop them smaller in my "mini chopper" to fit them in the jar better. Tastes great!
THESE ARE SO GOOD TO KEEP ON HAND SINCE FRESH MUSHROOMS DON'T KEEP VERY LONG. I USE THESE IN ALL TYPES OF DISHES THAT CALL FOR MUSHROOMS. I KEEP SOME HYDRATED IN THE FRIDGE MOST ALL OF THE TIME FOR EASY ACCESS. IT DOES TAKE THESE A LITTLE LONGER TO RE-HYDRATE THAN SOME OF THE OTHER FORMS OF DRIED VEGETABLES BUT ONCE THEY DO, THEY SERVE THE SAME PURPOSE AS FRESH. I WILL BE KEEPING THESE IN MY PANTRY FROM NOW ON.
Though mushrooms are expensive when dried, this is a good buy. Plan to use one can now and save one for emergency use.
I got these to try, one of those "so I can get the free shipping" items. I absolutely love them!! wonderful flavor and they re-hydrate quickly and evenly, unlike other dried mushrooms. I've used them in soups and stews, and in pot pies to absorb excess moisture. I really wish they were still available. Note, they're also sodium free.
